i5 3570k 4.5GHz overclock at 1.15v

Thread Starter
So, decided to overclock my aging i5 3570k to 4.5GHz for the first time.

Using LLC at 75% and offset mode, got it to run with a x45 multiplier at 1.15v and at 1.04v with a x16 multiplier. Speedstep and all C-States are active.

Ran both prime95 and IBT (12 hours and 10 passes respectively) and got no WHEA errors of any kind.

As I'm not very familiar with this, and after searching the forum for a long time, this seems very good. Maybe TOO good.

Do I have anything to worry about or can I consider these results stable with this processor?

Yeah, I'd consider that a great overclock. I'm pretty sure I wouldn't be able to boot at 4.5 GHz with only 1.15 V. But if you're passing tests it's obviously fairly stable. I'd just continue to watch it over the next few days. You could also try running something like folding at home, a lot of people say it uncovers instabilities where other programs don't. I found the same thing when I set it up, I needed a tad more voltage to make it run without crashing once every couple days.

when i had a 3570k it needed 1.4v to get to 4.4ghz and it wasn't even completely stable, highest i could get 100% 12 hour stable was like 4.3ghz

I'd do it, but I'm on aircooling, don't think that would be a good idea.

Thanks a lot, I guess I just wanted to know if these results were possible lol since I was seeing some people needing 1.25v or more to reach 4.5GHz

I actually don't know if it can run x45 multiplier at lower voltages, because at 1.14v offset, the idle voltage becomes to low and it crashes.

Should I raise the voltage a little just to be sure?

Damn, guess I should have overclocked when I got it a year ago. What a waste.

Aww who knows maybe by running it a year not overclocked "broke" the chip in to allow for a good overclock. Its a mystery.

Haha, that's a possibility. I doubt anyone ever did a controlled test to figure it out tongue.gif
