Question About the Future of Tablet OSes

(Possibly a good hardware reference today:

Lenovo ThinkPad 8 Full Windows 8

$ 399

8" IPS 1920 x 1200
Atom z3770 up to 2.39 Ghz (faster than Dell Venue 8 Pro, Asus VivoTab Note 8, Lenovo Miix 2, Acer W4 with z3740 up to 1.86 Ghz)
2 GB RAM
64 GB
BT. WiFi
micro HDMI)

With hardware rapidly evolving for a while now, does anyone think Android is a "dead end OS"?

iOS/Apple has been the leader of mobile/tablet app optimization and sales, isn't that easy to carry on to Apple's full blown desktop OS in the future?

Is there a good reason not to have the Mac OS when Apple's phones and tablets become powerful enough?

Windows RT, Phone OS at least are Windows and I think it's possible they'll be all integrated into one MS OS in the future. I also expect full Windows experience including all the Apps RT and WinMobile accumulated.

MS Phones/tablets might become true desktop replacement for most people.

Also, doesn't Windows already have an Android emulator?

What do you think Android/Google will have? Will it just be ultimately, just cheaper devices?

..5-10 years from now.

I'm very interested in what people's thoughts are about this.

It is an interesting topic, but I can say what I know at my best. Don't take any of these opinions as facts.

This isn't possible sadly. iPhones and and iPad use ARM, so they can't handle x86 Applications I believe. If Apple decide to replace iPhones and iPad ARMs to Intel or AMD CPU, then there is a possibility, however, it'll comes a huge cost.
There isn't a good reason IMO not to have Mac OS regardless iPhones and Tablets becomes powerful enough. No matter how much ARM improve, their performance isn't enough to defeat Intel Atom CPU.

It is hard to tell what Google is thinking compare to Apples.
I can't say for certain what will happen to Android/Google, but I believe Windows 8 tablet is slowly catching up. Sooner or later, some people might dump Android/iPad for Windows 8 because it is using full blown Windows 8 OS not Windows RT and can run any desktop applications while in a tablet form.

I don't mean literally they'll dump Android/iPad. It might be a great tablet for kids, however, who knows what will happen.

Oh. Then maybe one day, iPhones will go Intel.

Maybe the cost would still be competitive when Intel SoCs gets more aggressively positioned in the near future.

I see. I hope Intel would keep improving.

I wonder if AMD will ever enter the fray.

I think so too. I think MS will gain momentum towards 2015.

I hope Android stays competitive in the long term. So far, they're outselling MS tablets but I see the marketshare shrink 5-10 years from now in favor of MS but who knows. I'm definitely short sighted with this. I just thought it was interesting to think how they might do later on.

I might think that MS tablet might replace netbook or lower end laptop.

Yeah, Android and iPad are outselling the MS tablet, however, it really depend on what they'll planning to use it for.

Well, the Surface line seems like a full replacement of netbooks. Now WIndows 8/8.1 are down to the same price as Android tablets, or even cheaper.

Just look at the Dell Venue 8 Pro. Full WIndows 8 + Office on sale very often for $200. Hard to go to a mobile OS over that.

I wish the Asus VivoTab Note 8/Lenovo Thinkad 8 would finally be readily available.

Is Intel or Windows somewhat doing an artificial restriction or something? xD

I read somewhere that apps still aren't as good for full Windows.. maybe it's a bit unwieldy for non pen based windows 8 tablets.. then again we are talking about the future of w/c I guess Pen becomes almost mandatory with Full Windows tablet/phone experience.

Really thinking twice before opening my Lenovo Miix 2 that I recently got from BB's flat $ 200 pricing.

Apps and Audience

W8 Market still lacked a lot of Apps compare to iPad and Android tablet.
W8 is more of meant for school/business/work rather entertainment. I mean there are still entertainment in it but not enough to appeal the audience such as the children.

Children is obviously going to get iPad or Android because they are seeing how their friends has it. Parents aren't tech savvy either, so they might choose a tablet that is easy for them and their children to use.
Compare to us, the tech savvy people who would prefer W8 tablet due to its performance, ability to use it like a laptop and etc.

Not to mention, iPad is really simple for people, so it is easier for people to get into compare to Android and Windows 8 tablet.
Not saying it is impossible, but it takes some learning curve especially Windows 8 tablet.
Android is okay, it is in the middle I would say. You get to customize it more to make it more simple, cooler and etc.

I got used to Windows 8.1 on my PC, and I am fan of it now, well sort of.
Now, I really want a Windows 8 tablet, so I can fulfill that missing touchscreen interface, lol.
