Choose a Windows 8 tablet. For something that doesn't feel like a toy.

Agree. Its a shame microsoft were late to the tab(le)t

but they are making some inroads. The Surface keyboard is nice and they have actual functionality beyond angry birds. The recent google tablets are also starting to look UI wise like a desktop as more people use google docs, so there is a convergence coming.

Blowing up a phone app does not make it a tablet application. This is my biggest gripe with android. The major apps for the phones are fine, but just being lazy and having the system scale it is annoying. For me, if I ever got a tablet, I would expect a tablet experience. Not an over-sized phone, I have a galaxy note 3 for that.

Exactly what's wrong/lacking about Android tablet apps?most of the popular ones have pretty good tablet UIs(at least for 7-8" tablets, 10" ones need more work) imo:

This isn't 2011, Android Tablet apps have come a long way since Honeycomb,

thats the distinction. A phablet can do everything needed at 5" for real 'mobile'. Do you carry round two screens?

yeah i don't really see the point in tablets either. it's not like laptops are heavy these days-they're already super mobile anyway. if i don't need to do actual work, i'll just take my phone. i'm not going to start carrying around a man purse just for the privilege of carrying around a larger phone-a larger phone that doesn't even have all the features of an actual phone.

as far as media consumption goes, a 15" laptop destroys a tablet any day. you get a massively larger screen and don't have to constantly hold it up to your face (fatiguing)

Lol, getting mad over nothing.
I am not mad, I was simply replying. As for your counter-statements;

- Why could you not imagine an average person buying an android tablet. You are obviously allowed and certainly entitled to your opinion, but I am asking you to explain it.
- You said your family owns iPad's. Granted it was my mistake to imply you own one, although it was my opinion (which I am entitled to as well) that based on your stance, you have an iPad.
- You are implying 62% of people buying tablets are "PC Gamer/builder/enthusiast/programmer/engineer/scientists/etc" which I would hazard to guess is false.
- I never implied that you said everyone should own one, I just implied that there are reasons for getting an android tablet.
- No it is not your fault, but just because you don't see it does not mean it doesn't happen. I personally don't see people using samsung galaxy's very much, but does that mean it doesn't happen? No.

Again I am not getting mad, I am just pointing out that basing your opinion on only what you've seen and heard/experienced is a bit narrow sighted.

Well i have multiple tablets in my house...all andriod based mind you... two HP touchpads with dual boot OS with andriod, amazon kindle fire HD, nook +HD and my second gen nexus7.... the nexus is mine while the rest of the household has the others... i also own a note3 that i use when i cant take the nexus with me... i use the nexus for games, browsing and e reader... many uses that i have without having to fire up the desktop computer or having to lug a heavier laptop around with me.....

I was thinking of picking up one of the more affordable windows tablet to give that a shot, Ipads look nice but the cost for such devices really dont justify it for me, especially with the limitations i do hear about it...

I have a Windows tablet....but I'm selling it. Instead, I got myself a huge 17" laptop. I figured if I'm going to carry *something* bigger than a phone, I want full functionality.

My wife has a small 7" Android tablet. She plays games on it, and it serves that purpose perfectly.

I have a Chinese Galaxy S4 knockoff, which works perfectly for my mobile phone needs without breaking the bank.

It's very much a "to each their own" thing, and tablets are great for consumption, laptops are great for productivity.

I'm wondering if I should replace my dying Galaxy Pocket I got for free with a 5" phone or a Nexus 7 + one of those 10-20eur phones that have a battery life so enormous not even my mom's phonecalls can drain it. I don't see the point in having both a smartphone and a tablet. Yes, I'm weird like that. As far as Android vs iOS goes I will stay with Android for a good few years. One simple reason: price. If I had the money for an iPad I would instead spend it on a Nexus 7 + SSD for my battlestation. Maybe one day when I'm done with schooling and have a stable job I will give Apple a try, since I have no beef with them and people who own Apple products can't get enough of saying how easy they are to use.

If your country have Moto G avaliable I'd get that. It is half the price of a Nexus 5 and 1/3 the price of a Galaxy S4/S5 while still being a very good Android phone. I'd prefer that setup to Nexus 7(maybe with LTE) + a dumb/feature phone.
