Does my motherboard support PSU?

Thread Starter
I ordered Maxcube Arsenal 900W 80PLUS Silver ATX 2.3 psu cause it was so cheap, now i noticed that its atx 2.3
My motherboard is ASUS M5A97 R2.0 AM3+ AMD970 DDR3 USB3 SATA6 ATX, so its not combatible with it ?

Sure it is, all modern PSUs are backwards compatible with motherboards going back all the way to at least the Pentium II era (1997).

The ATX mentioned in the motherboard's name is a reference to its physical size (it could be XL-ATX, the largest consumer oriented motherboard, E-ATX, which stands for extended ATX, mATX which stands for micro ATX, or mini ITX, which is even smaller), so you know what kind of computer case you need for it to fit; the ATX 2.3 on the PSU is a different set of specifications, electrical and connector specifications, that are backwards compatible with older motherboards, as I said, which is not the case with yours anyway, you have a modern motherboard.

Good question. That PSU is longer than the usual 300w - 860w PSUs, it's probably as long as the 1000w+ units from most manufacturers.

Having said that, the Zalman case actually looks like it could handle that PSU even with the fan facing down, even though it doesn't say anything officially about it, but you can see from the pictures that it has vents for a fan at the bottom, so you can probably even use the PSU with the fan facing down, just make sure the airflow isn't obstructed. If not, mount it with the fan facing upwards. Other than that, it should fit.

ATX power supplies' dimensions are usually the same except for depth which is longer in some cases to accommodate modular connectors and / or high power designs, which is the case, so it should fit given your case. Like I said, the worst that can happen is having to mount the PSU with the fan facing up.

It's based on AcBel design, it looks decent for what it offers, especially for that price, but if you're not going to be using all that power, maybe you should go for something with a lower wattage.

You're welcome! Any questions about overclocking your CPU head over to the AMD section, I'm sure you'll be well taken care of over there.
