This guy...He knows his stuff.

Also Will this 290x still run at 100C? I hope they pick binned chips for this gpu, since most other 290x's are pretty average when it comes to overclocking.

I bet you the "binned" chips will be very leaky chips and will run extra hot. Those are the type of chips that do best on LN2 but will get too hot for the standard heatsink.

So hopefully we will start seeing the full custom cards, the custom cooled reference boar cards have been on special every other week at overclockers.co.uk for about 6 weeks I think now.

This week only, £350. Next week £380. This week only £335. Next week £380. This week £335. Next week £370 or whatever. Normally I'm the guy that goes ahead and grabs the first deal, a month before the new revisions come out

BUT NOT THIS TIME

What a fail IMO.

This would be such a pain to crossfire being a 3 slot card meaning you basically need 4 slots or top card will suffocate. Then hope your bottom card will fit without mashing into the bottom of your case or PSU. To finish it off you would need four 8-pin and two 6-pin power connectors. Very few sub 1000W PSUs have that many PCI-e power connectors and there's no need for >1000w on two cards.

Lightning is mean to be the card for high end water/ln2. If you want a card to run on air get the tri-x.

That's my point, I don't see the reason for their 3 slot cooler and how it's practical. They should just come with a water block on it like EVGA does their hydro copper.

its about 2.25/2.5 slots, and lightning is the highest end you can get, so if your planning to use a very high end GPU in crossfire. youd better have a high end system, which usually has plenty of room between PCi-e slots.

i have the sabertooth z77, i would have no problem with CF.

as for the Power, once again high end GPU made for extreme overclocking. your just wasting your money if you buy this without a proper system. and you only really need 1 8 and 1 6 pin connector, the other 8 pin is optional.

You always need an air cooler.

Umm no MOAR POWA definitely a necessity to have all the power connectors plugged in 40% + OC anyone.

true, i was just stating it was "optional". you don't need 2x 8 and 1x6 to run this card. you can still plug in 1x6 and 1x8 and overclock a bit, that's if you don't have the extra 8pin, which was what the complaint was about.

but really, if that were the case. you should not have bought a lightning in the first place. no way im running this without 2x8 and 1x6, seems like i wasted my money if i don't.
