[OC3D] MSI 290X Lightning First Look - Page 9

I posted this in the KPE owner's thread but it seems more relevant here:

Sometimes in the press documentation you get a slide that causes us to take pause for a moment. We understand that MSI are explaining how their choice of memory allows for higher overclocks, but are they suggesting that they're using both of the memory types? No its more the fact that they have tested them all! Samsung was apparently meant to be the best but they got much better results using Hynix and as you will see later we got better results than stated here!

Interesting how they went for Hynix over Samsung, I am not sure about the memory timings but I think they chose Hynix so that they (And reviewers) could report MOAR MEMORY OVERCLOCKS at the expense of tighter timings on Samsung.

Someone please correct me if I'm wrong here, but doesn't the R9 290X use 512-bit memory? meaning it is far from bandwidth starved... ie. tighter timings are worth more on this card?

I hope I'm wrong there, but still would be a sucky move, just to get 'MOAR MHZ MEMORY OCs' reviews!
