Well technically, they are correct, you are not running XP. If it reads windows 98, it should say, you are not running XP. I doubt anyone running XP that is wondering if they are on XP, would have modified whatever variables to show a different version.

I mean, seriously, with all the things in the world that SHOULD make you depressed... a guy who doesn't give a flying-foop about computers not knowing what OS his computer runs should be the last thing. Ignorance is a much bigger problem than you think my friend, but it is from people who don't care to step into other people's shoes, and don't care to think about what others go through. I could ask my father what OS he runs, and he would probably have to think about it for a bit.

It isn't because he is 'stupid', or doesn't work with computers, or even because he doesn't know how computers work, it is because he has other things that he actually cares about. Now, you could ask him how long ago Carcharocles angustidens lived and the average size tooth, he wouldn't even hesitate to tell you, along with the shark's pedigree. He wouldn't be 'depressed' if you didn't know that sharks have several layers of teeth, even tho it is considered common knowledge, and most people do know that tid-bit about sharks. He most definitely wouldn't say 'suicide would be an easy way out'.

I will leave it at this, because there really isn't anything more to say. Sorry if I took your comment too seriously, but I thought your comment was very harsh and short-sided.

But on a serious note, I just found out that my computer is NOT windows XP.

I know that , I realized after it was too late i forgot to mention that, that's why i said i at least try to grasp/learn things. things i don't know about. Also last part of my post. i understand having different areas of expertise but, there is still the matter of being flatout ignorant, almost on purpose.

That's pure conjecture. You don't know that for certain. A lot of these machines were bought when XP was new or the standard. they have no reason what so ever to upgrade. these machine are used ONLY for interfacing with these machine and nothing more. We are talking about X-ray machines, stuff that no mater how much medical advance will still be needed.

You don't put spinner rims on the company truck/car for the same reason these machines don't need replaced.

Lol most of the XP machines at my work can barely run XP nm something newer... This is a lot to ask of companies IMO. I mean my W8 machine at home still lacks tons of drivers and support for devices I have or had no intention of replacing anytime soon. I can see some companies that have no choice look for option C because they won't want to get burnt like this again later on, MS is just giving fodder to the competitors to throw back at them.

lol good luck. if were you and iwas gonna pull a stunt like that, i'd have the decency to suggest Lubuntu instead of ubuntu. for two major reasons.

1. ubuntu has NON stand UI like windows 8 does, ie not "start" menu, where Lubuntu does and is easy to navigate, even for windows veterans.

2. It's a well known fact that Ubuntu collects personal information (searches with in the OS) and sends it to amazon.

3. aside form those 2 aspects Lubuntu is ubuntu but, better. it also runs well on old hardeware and is getting LTS on 14.04

Me: "Click Start"
Customer: "Wat?"
Me: "Press the key on your keyboard that looks like a flag"
Customer: "Mkay"
Me: "Type WINVER and press enter"
Customer: "Will that download a virus?"
Me: "....... No."
