[Build Log] Big-Beetre - Obsidian 750D

Thread Starter
Howdy all!

I will keep this short and sweet. This is an extension of my previous build log because I am pulling my build out of the Shinobi XL. I wasn't very happy with the resulting layout I had in the Shinobi XL and have been eye-balling the Obsidian 750D for a while now. Finally decided to pull the trigger.

Parts list so far:

1 x Bitspower Rotary Fitting "Q" - 360 Degree Water Cooling Accessory (BP-QR-C) = $10.50
Nozzles No Nozzles
1 x Bitspower BP-MVV-SLBK Mini-Valve - Silver Shining With Black Handle (BP-MVV-SLBK) = $21.95
1 x Indigo Xtreme Clean (XC-01) = $7.95
1 x Bitspower G1/4" Silver Shining IG1/4" Extender (BP-WTP-C40) = $3.49
1 x Bitspower G 1/4" Silver Shiny Temperature Sensor Stop Fitting (BP-WTP-CT) = $8.99
1 x *** NEW *** Mayhems Pastel Ice White Concentrate - 250ml (MD-PAS-IW-CON) = $19.95
1 x Logisys 12" 12V LED Strip Light Sleeved - Blue (LDS12BL) = $14.95
Sleeve Color Black
Heatshrink Color Black
1 x Bitspower G1/4" Silver Shining Male to Male Rotary Adapter (BP-RG) = $8.95
1 x (UN)Designs Infinite Pump Bracket (for DDC pumps) - Horizontal Version - Black (UN-INFINITE-HZNT-BK) = $18.99
1 x (UN)Designs Pump Z2-Bracket (for Laing D4/D5/DDC Pumps) & 120mm Fans - Black (UN-Z2BRACKET-BK) = $17.99
2 x Bitspower G 1/4" Silver Shiny Rotary 90 Degree IG 1/4" Adapter (BP-90R) = $19.90

Sub-Total: $153.61

This is my initial estimation of the parts I will need to setup a loop with my current water cooling parts in the new case.

I had two viable layouts envisioned (I apologize for the crappy phone images):

So far I am leaning towards having the HDD cage on the bottom since it makes the interior feel less cramped. Thoughts?

I am also getting my main board RMA'd since the front panel USB3.0 header doesn't work.

Future plans:
Aquaero 6 PRO to control 8 PWM fans and a PWM MCP-35x - ORDERED
Corsair individually sleeved cable kit - white
3rd 3TB Seagate & flip from RAID1 to RAID5
Acrylic tubing
Custom sleeving remaining cables

Do you mean acrylic tubing? Or just some fat 3/4" tubes; they're pretty tough. tongue.gif

Hah! 3/4 is what I used the first time around and as such I will be using it again, it does make for quite the battle. I did mean acrylic for the future though. thumb.gif

Still waiting on motherboard but have received the first batch of cooling components.

"Q" block from the pump outlet to a temp sensor (bottom), tap (towards camera), and outlet to GPU (top). After setting this up I realized how tight it really was near the top of the reservoir where the ports are for the front radiator. Second parts order will have a 5-way snake rotary so I can maneuver around in the tight space and get from the front radiator to the top of the reservoir.

Looking into places that I might be able to mount the Aquaero 6 aside from the 5.25 bays since I don't really want to break up that beautiful front fascia.

I am thinking of hiding the Aquaero 6 on the back panel right behind the top radiator. There is about 30mm of room behind there which should be more than enough to route the required cables into it. Oh and yes I will be running it sans the LCD component similar to the Aquaero 5 LT. If anyone has tried this and found it to not work please let me know!

If you haven't found an answer to your question about taking the LCD component off of the AQ6, then I would ask in the AQ owner's thread:

OCN Aquaero Owners Club

Edit: Never mind I see you already posted in that thread.

Decided to try my hand at talking to a camera, I didn't stutter too much or anything! biggrin.gif

I will be posting more videos and photos as I get parts in and move the build forward.

EDIT: Fixed the link.

Just received my replacement main board and it looks like I was played by Asus support like so many before me.

This first image displays an increbibly beat up and scratched heat spreader.

The black screws didn't stick out that far on the main board I sent out.

And the final piece of evidence I needed to deduce that the heat spreaders have been tampered with on this board. Possibly removed for an after market heat spreader, possibly in a failed attempt to fix the previous issue, who knows.

You think the RMA techs would have noticed this and sent the board back to the original owner. Isn't there something about no RMA for tampered main boards? Anyway I will have to get another one sent out since the unit I sent to them was in much better condition than this is.

More waiting... thumbsdownsmileyanim.gif

Well here I am still waiting on another board to be sent out.

Timeline:
2014-02-26 - First Date I emailed Asus
2014-03-05 - First RMA initiated (8 BUSINESS day delay, had to remind rep to start)
2014-03-14 - Replacement board shipped from ASUS
2014-03-21 - Replacement board received, in damaged condition, images sent to techsupport@asus.com and requested another board be sent
2014-03-24 - techsupport@asus.com informs me to contact Pegatron at 812 282 2787 and request AWT RMA, long distance for me (Canada) and no toll free number
2014-03-25 - Get in touch with Terrie Santana @ Pegatron, have to forward images for 2nd time to her. Get a new RMA #
2014-03-28 - Get in touch with Alan Mayott @ Pegatron, turns out Terrie forgot to initiate the "stock check", forward images a 3rd time to Alan, get new RMA #
2014-04-03 - Receive Purolator airway bill and yet another RMA # from e_service@asus.com.tw
2014-04-04 - Hand defective board off to Purolator and notify Alan @ Pegatron
2014-04-07 - Notify asus_cc that board was sent since there was no response from Alan @ Pegatron. Alan replies late at night stating that he never received any tracking info.

Hard facts:
- Had to forward images of damaged board 3 times (once to ASus and twice to Pegatron)
- 39 + 1 + 83 + 4 + 2 + 10 + 6 + 6 = 151 long distance minutes. Various long hold times while rep was working and multiple disconnects while waiting in queue.
- Asked Asus live support if there was a toll free number and was told "no"
- 4 RMA numbers created
- 42 days total wait time (still counting)
- AWT RMA has a 2 day time limit for Asus to be informed to send out the cross shipped replacement. My 2 days were up on Monday even though I informed people at both companies.

I have dealt with RMA many times before however this is far and away the singularly worst experience I have ever had with customer service from any company and truly boggles my mind... thumbsdownsmileyanim.gif

Is there an Asus rep on this site?
