And it would be nice if it could eliminate your cable companies set top box ( rent a cable card instead to go into the xbox ), but just piggy backing off of a current set top box feels a bit stupid, at least to me.
Overall I've just never been a fan of the whole "buy xbox gold so you can use a free service that is free on every other device except ours because we're greedy and want your money" attitude they've had. Playstation 3 and 4 allow you to watch Netflix, Hulu, or use any other internet related applications without having to purchase Plus, you can use all those services on your computer as well, or even on a smart TV or BluRay player without having to purchase "access" to what you're already paying for. So I do coincide that with greed.
I use my consoles more for Media than I do for gaming, so this was always a big selling point of the Playstation for me. Knowing if I decide I'm tired of games, I don't have to worry about keeping up on the Plus subscription. And no, I don't buy a year or more at a time because I often only game for a couple of weeks every few months on my consoles, at least, online games that is.
So to me, they kind of failed going for the media device. Sure they have some nice features, but needing Gold to use services you've already paid for is stupid in my eyes. They're forcing you to pay for access to your own internet that you've already paid to access.
I do own both though, but I use the PS4 a lot more, just for that reason alone.
