[CNET] Sony PlayStation 4 racks up 6 million sales - Page 6

Those are some impressive numbers so far. While both consoles are selling well, I'm amazed by how many sales PS4 is getting (especially considering the current available games situation). Then again, MS originally did such a horrible job with PR in regards to the X1 that a lot of people decided to go with PS4 just on principle alone. It's not to say all of their ideas were bad, they just did a horrible job of informing and promoting them. I also agree that "Xbox One" is sort of a stupid name, for many reasons. I also find myself calling it "Xbone" from time to time.

That said, I own both... While both are nice consoles, I feel like the X1 is the nicer one of the two. It feels/looks better made, silent, feels like more of a "next gen" experience, and honestly the controller and overall system UI are, in my opinion, much better. Heck, I wish PS4 stuck with the XMB of the PS3, I'm not a fan of the PS4's new OS UI at all, it's disorganized and sometimes it's fast and responsive and sometimes it's sluggish... Over-all, it's just not very intuitive. The DualShock 4 controller is an over-all improvement over the DualShock 3, but it's still, again in my opinion, nowhere near as comfortable as the X1's controller (which has to be the most comfortable controller I've ever used). DualShock 4 also leaves much to be desired in battery life. I am not fond of the placement of some of the changed buttons and they did change the over-all feel of their handles also, which may be a pro or con depending on tastes.

As far as games go, there isn't much holding me to PS4 right now... The best thing about the PS4 right now is for resale. I've sold my original one, bought another one and only hooked it up once... I also purchased other ones for resale. My X1 on the other hand has been getting regular use. I've played and beat RYSE and have been playing Forza 5 regularly. I'm also still on the original batteries for the controller, been in there since January 7th and still have about half their life left, impressive considering how many times I've turned that controller on and either gamed or navigated around the system/online features with it (as I still prefer using the controller over any kind of gesture or voice commands - although, I admit they do work better than I had anticipated). Forza should use a decent amount of controller battery power because that game makes use of all the force-feedback the controller has to offer (like the new ones in the triggers). Also, despite X1's inferior multi-plats, their exclusives have been more impressive thus far. Both RYSE and Forza 5 are quite nice and run real smooth, especially Forza.

One thing that really brings the PS4 down in my vision is in regards to media playback and also for use as a Blu-Ray player. I have always used my PS3 as my blu-ray player and of course for Sony's excellent first party games. PS3, while not having an IR sensor, still at least had a remote capability (and in my case, I use Harmony remote with the adapter). PS4 has no ability for any at this time and who knows if they will. It basically requires you to use the controller (and it remain on with that annoying bright light) or interact with the console itself to turn it on/off unless it's directly hooked to a compatible TV with HDMI that support controlling over HDMI. Mine goes into a receiver, so this is not feasible and again, I use a Harmony remote. If I cannot control the device with my Harmony Remote it certainly will never be my new Blu-Ray player. My PS3 still works great, but it's an original "Fat" one and it's damn loud, which can be kinda annoying when watching movies. Looks like the X1 might become the main BD player in the future since it's both quiet and my remote is fully functional with it. If I'm not gaming, I don't even touch the controllers or turn them on, I do everything from the Harmony.

Meh, anyway... I'm glad I have both, but the PS4 has yet to show it's worth... I also don't see anything overly compelling coming soon for it. The Order looks somewhat interesting, and Infamous Second Son (although I liked the previous games) looks underwhelming to me. For me, it's going to remain more on the back burner because of it's "just a gaming device" status. I also don't even think we've tapped into what we'll see developed on these consoles. So I look forward to what is to come on both. All of the extreme hate that goes on between fan-boys is ridiculous.

no I got your point entirely. My point is that the difference between them seems big now because they are comparable to modern PCs, but as PC components become exponentially faster, the differences will be less and less noticeable.

I'm not sure i agree, this is strictly between consoles. not every one plays on PC too. also they run very similar hardware to it won't be a mater of exclusive but, a matter of patch for 1 game on PS4 to make use of the the hardware and have sharper textures and mabye a few high poly models. PC will always ROMP them yes but, if you took side by side comparisons shots it would be noticeable specially for those who game on console and not PC. i know i'd see the difference, specially when it's matter of 1 being 720 and 1080 or 1 being 30fps and the other being 60 fps. it doesn't matter how far PC advances that will be noticeable to every one.

the problem is that you are comparing high-end pc gamers to console gamers. it's (largely) not the same market, so it will be noticeable to them. heck, they probably won't own monitors or tvs at higher resolutions than 1080p for the next 5-10 years anyway

I still have PS1 controllers still in tact here as well... The only thing to ever happen to my controllers was the rubber wearing off on the thumb sticks... He's definitely doing something wrong to be breaking them that much.

Even back a few years ago with PS3 I thought in my mind it would be leaps and bounds better than X360, which quickly changed after using each one. After using the 360 I think I just preferred the games on the 360 controller and UI with party chat features that to this day I don't know if Sony has implemented into PS3. The Ads built into the homescreen it is pretty pathetic considering I also have a Live subscription. I don't mind games or console related ads, but the ads for snack foods, unrelated tech, movies and terrible music is what was disappointing for me.

Another thing, I really just like the ergonomics that Microsoft has designed into their controllers, while Sony just went the simplistic route and recycled dualshock yet again. Not to mention how fragile the dualshock controllers were. Me and my friend probably went through one a month which was doable when they were only $20 on PS2, but not at $60. Xbox 360 controllers usually last me a year until they get dropped on my concrete floor and make a hard landing.

But when it comes down to it, Xbox one has games I actually wanted to play so I bought it. There was no games on PS4 that could persuade me to buy the system. I haven't personally used a PS4 yet, but I imagine it is a quality machine (minus the controller) and I hope they get more back to their roots with game variety that PS2 had.

I have both a PS3 and Xbox 360, they're really much the same and the differences come down to user preference, not like previous generations where some genuinely were worse. Feels like Sega vs Nintendo again.

Future promise, you just know there's going to be certain genres of game and series' on the new consoles. That and people like keeping up with the times.

I don't own an xbox one and would not be able to comment about that but I found this article

http://www.cinemablend.com/games/Xbox-One-Dashboard-Has-Been-Optimized-Ads-57112.html

The article is old so I am not sure if Microsoft has changed that since I know they have improved upon a lot of stuff that fans were not happy about.
