Not only do they offer less free games than PSN, but they offer WORSE games than PSN. Halo 3 needed about $12 worth of DLC to play with the other 5,000 people online. They also gave us Assassin's Creed II, Gears of War (not exactly mad about that one), Fable 3, Dead Rising 2, and Crackdown, just to name a few. Do yourself a favor and go look at how old and irrelevant those games are. THEN go look at PS+ and see that they offered BF3, Uncharted 3, Borderlands, Borderlands 2 (again, just to name a few), and see how much newer, more relevant, and better games they offered.

Anyone with a brain could've figured out Free Games for Gold was a half-done (if that) cop-out and rip-off of PS+ that Microsoft wanted just to shut people up. Let's not forget they announced two free games during E3, Assassin's Creed II, and Halo 3. Not only do they only release one game every 15 days (on top of a few free games at a time on PS+), but it took them MONTHS after they announced it to release Halo 3.

I didn't even like PSN for multiplayer back on PS3(i thought it was boring and the community overall isn't very skilled IMO) but even I can tell you LIVE isn't that much better than PSN. Only reason I even had LIVE is my friends had it.

Bioshock Infinite, XCOM, Uncharted 3 and Metro: Last Light were all in February's PS+ games package... all of which are way more recent that XBL's meager offering. I also totally agree, it was a shallow attempt to somewhat match PS+'s free games offering... 'cept fell short since you'd need to make up for the 16 months or so of free games available on PS+, which as I said, could EASILY fill a 1TB drive lol

Bioshock Infinite? Are you kidding me? That game is barely a year old and they offered it for free?!!!! :'( I'm kinda upset I don't have a PS3 right now because I've been wanting to try that game out for a while now. btw thanks for reinforcing my point. biggrin.gif Cuz you and I both know we'd rather play Worms instead of Bioshock Infinite, right? rolleyes.gif

Honestly I think PS+ is just the nail in the coffin for the Xbox One. If Sony continues such a trend on the PS4 then you'd have to be a madman (or REALLY like Halo) to buy an Xbox One over a PS4..........but Sony, PLEASE start convincing these devs to quit pushing 40-50GB downloads. That's a bit ridiculous. What in the world are you possibly putting in those files to make the game weigh so much?

I don't remember them advertising it, but speaking of less than year old games for free, Tomb Raider is free now as well on PS+. I happened to stumble upon it by accident.

So thats like 4 months in. If PS4 continues to sell well we could get some amazing game like PS2 era.

I must be living under a rock, these free games you speak of are pretty enticing. Do you get them just for having a PS+ account or are they conditional on purchasing a year or something.

I can see the business model working like X sequel/DLC is about to come out. developer A wants to boost exposure/online community and makes a deal with Sony to release the game for free.

What Sony has to worry about is that if this model starts having an effect on software attachment, they will be forced to stop doing this because Dev's will focus on where the best returns are (XB1?)

/off topic

I have a Wii-U and have been pretty pleased with the 1st party games, but might consider one of the "heavy hitters" when rev2 hardware comes out.

You have to purchase a PS+ subscription ($50 a year MSRP) in order to qualify for the free games, and you keep them as long as you're subscribed to PlayStation Plus. You also can't go back and re-download games that were already offered if you didn't download them while the offer was available.

It's like having a yearly pass. As long as you keep subscribing you can play the free games you have downloaded. If it's like the Vita, as soon as it runs out you can't play the stuff that has been downloaded for free but you keep your save files in case you renew.

Edit: ninja'd. Darn you slow phone.

You have to be subscribed to get the free games, which costs around $49 per year MSRP, but you can find sales at around the $39 mark. Within the first two months, you will make that back on games though. They also give free games for PSP and Vita, not just PS3 and PS4. You have to activate the download for that month and then the game is tied to your account. You must be currently subbed to play the game, so you can't download stuff for a year and then cancel the sub and play those games. Overall it is a pretty fair model. Some other games they gave out for "free" were Dragon's Dogma, Kingdom's of Amalur, and Saints Row The Third. You can find the entire list if you look around.

FWIW, if you sub now, you can't go back and get games for free that were previously available. You have to get them the month they were available. I'm glad I got in early, I have a huge collection!
