I'd buy one for Milkyway @Home.

For mining R9 290 is more efficient when undervolted , it's just less consistent

It is the perfect mining card. You don't need big clocks. Undervolt it and have a coll running, great performing, non energy absorbing mining rig.
The coolers will have way less issues with the heat. Meaning easier to mine in warmer areas.

Actually for mining these R9 280 which are all boost models would not be a better choice than HD7950 non boost.

Boost bodels are much harder to undervolt as they often come with locked voltage (and set to 1.25V) and you can only try with Video BIOS editor 7 do manually edit BIOS voltage settings.

As for hashing, HD7950 top out ~ 700 khash/s overclocked above 1100MHz core and then they use a massive amount of power.

From my testing in mining a HD7950 @ 1100/1575 with 1.050V (which is a massive undervolt) uses ~ 230W of power.

That's why I mine @ 925/1575Mhz , undervolted to 0.938V and get 570 khash/s with 165W power draw on Asus HD7950 DC2 TOP V2 card (900/1250MHz stock, 1.094V)

I expect price poping over 320$ within a week on these R9 280 cards. biggrin.gif

We run the hd7950s 1075/1250 and they run @ 1.1V and get 650 kh/s. Cool and not power gobbling. The 280X uses more power for 75 kh/s more.
