[AnandTech] AMD AM1 Platform Announced: Socketed Kabini - Page 4

I have A4-5000 with 8330 graphics in my laptop.

It isn't enough GPU power to use MPC-HC with MadVR and things like motion-interpolation. But most of the other features can turned on.

Oddly enough, mpv in Linux looks very good and my little A4-5000 can run it just fine and it looks fantastic.

I am rather impressed with this thing though. But I think it's because I'm coming from a 25w C2D + ~30w x1600 mobility laptop that god 2 hours of battery life only if you turned the screen as low as it would go and then didn't use it.

Radeon 8330, in my experience, is enough to play Minecraft (without Optifine) at like 20 to 30 fps, League of Legends at 80+ fps on low.

If I ever actually get a TV, I'll definitely grab a Kabini and make it a file server/HTPC computer. It's in that awkward market a lot of you probably don't like (very good value for the money but not incredibly powerful compared to Intel) but it has its uses, and where it fits in, it's amazing.

If you can actually find a review where the review site isn't comparing a 30w+ Intel that costs twice as much against a 15w Kabini and then going "OMG KABINI JUST LOST HARD!!!" it actually looks like a good chip.

But that's how good AMD products get reviewed, you have to read between the lines.

Naming it AM1 is going to suck when it's time to have an AM2...

Honestly, their marketing team needs to be completely replaced; badmouthing a competing chipmaker 100x times your size was something that only Athlon64-era AMD could pull off. Really hoping they get HSA into more devices and computers, though.
It isn't since this is a SoC over a year old...

this is where they could be marginally useful here, vlow idle power means no noise output and even passive cooling, also cheap cost to put in a matx case with a few tb of raid.

even so i kind of get what people are saying. With dynamic core control and gating why havent AMD released an ultra low power CPU with 8 10 -cores yet that could scale higher IF needed? They already have the low power 45w Cap bios flip switch for Kaveri so its entirely possible. This gives the flexibility people want.

over the years i have seen the wider community practically shout in in AMD's faces about what product they want and it hits a brick wall, then the release a near miss product. Not only is their retail marketing department out of touch so is their hardware road map which completely obfuscates their loyal enthusiast market in favour of an invisible lowest common denominator market.

AMD is such a miss these days frown.gif

Yeah it kinda will be but the thing here is that is the platform name while the socket will hold the name FS1b(or something like that)

Kinda the opposite I thought. US and UK are starting back strongly again while the Euro zone only barely (that's probably because of the Greece affair too).

GBP slashes Euro just now.

I can hardly see the connection between "partly rebuilt in the 40s" and "developing nations".

Nazi Germany pretty much plundered all countries for resources to fuel their war effort they were also bombed back to the stone age themselves by Britain. It is irrelevant now, NL was rebuild in the 15 years after the war sovereignty state did use some good.

Looking at the British unenployment rate I doubt that I would like to add to that that NL isn't doing so well either we are a nation build on intelect but our stupid capitalist goverment is cutting on schools and education they are weak and shortsighted only carring about their own fortune in the current time.
They will not get my vote in 2 years since I believe that NL will be a second world country in 20 years if we don't diversify now.

The pound has always slashed the Euro the only time the GBP really dumped was during the oil crisis

Launching a new desktop socket for a year old laptop SOC doesn't make much sense...

Being late to the party and then only outperforming the competition in GPU benchmarks is no way to enter a market segment...

Here in uk, your actually better off not working believe or not, state gives you a wage and pays your rent, if you can make up a disability you get even more money and a brand new car. Seriously thinking about emigrating. Sorry for ot rant.
