$150 GPU upgrade

Thread Starter
I want a low end GPU to throw into my htpc. Preferably it would be comparable to the current gen consoles, which I think a few are at that price point.

Right now I'm looking at the r7 260x, r7 265, and the gtx 750 ti. Only the 260x which is the cheapest and lowest performer is in stock anywhere. I can't even find the 265 listed on Newegg or Amazon and I'm afraid crypto mining will jack the price above $150 when they do surface. What suggestions do you guys have?

Actually, the 750Ti is one of the best nVidia cards for mining. The Maxwell architecture allows it to hit about 220 khash/s, and it is right at your price point, not to mention it runs games well. I recommend you get one of those, and there's always SLI!

I actually have zero interest in mining, I just want a gaming capable card for cheap that will match the current console gen.

One thing I want to point out is that the 750ti does not support SLI, however it is probably the most powerful out of that list. There are several of them in stock on newegg at the moment as well.

When I checked this morning, they were out of stock. Looks like they're marked up about $20, but that's supply and demand for you.

Sorry, I meant to include "You can buy 2 cheaper cards..." but as I said earlier, I was on my tablet and it wasn't cooperating.

I checked Amazon this morning and saw the gtx 750 ti for $160, so I went ahead and bought it. It's $10 more than what I wanted to spend, but I think it still worth it.

I am at same price budget as yours but did some research and r7 265 is def better than 750 ti. the problem is i can't find it anywhere. Ther is only one on newegg but oos frown.gif
Going to wait next week if it's in stock , if not I'll be getting the 750ti

If you can get it for $150 the 265 would certainly be the best bet, but I'm worried it will fall victim to the miners. If you are open to used cards, 660s go for around $150 used and 660TIs for $180ish.

I waited about a week until I saw the 750 ti for $160 and the 265 nowhere in sight. I think you'll be happy with either one, but I wish you luck in finding a reasonably priced 265. I'm betting the crypto miners drive the price to where it isn't competitive with the 750 ti.
