Well, that's about it smile.gif Thanks a million for all your help, really saved me from grabbing that EVGA 600 B haha! Wouldn't like to see the entire setup turn into a fireworks display. Looks like I'm all set and ready, will start ordering soon enough.

Last thing to just check over once more would be the case. I started off with the NZXT Phantom 410, magnificent work of art. $100 is not so appealing though, and irresponsible should I say? rolleyes.gif Did some research on budget cases, listed entire Newegg cases line-up by price, low to high. Rosewill Challenger fits the bill really well, $50. Then again, keeping this thing for at least a good 5 years, want something that will last. Continued down the list and next option was the HAF 912 and Carbide 200r. 300r comes next, but at a hefty $80 and not much at all to add onto either HAF 912 or 200r.

Have I missed anything? I was surprised by the overwhelming number of mediocre cases, compared to a very very small number of good cases to choose from. What other good cases could I go with for not more than $60?
Only thing you missed, thats if you wanted to overclock, is a CPU cooler.
Here is a few I would buy, in order from least expensive to most.

http://www.amazon.com/dp/B005869XYK/?tag=pcpapi-20 (My personal favorite)

Here is the case you should buy. I've had personal experience with it, and it stays cool and quiet and its a good price.

Nice options there! I see you've linked the Xigmatek Dark Knight, I'll wait for it to restock. If it doesn't soon, I'll grab the NZXT you listed. I have the Xigmatek Gaia SD1283 in my sig-rig, great little thing got it for $20, two Yate Loon high speed fans in push pull and Arctic Silver 5.

And what a coincidence! I was drooling over pictures of the NZXT H230 just a few days ago! And now to add the icing on the cake... is there something similar with a side-window? thumb.gif

Yes but its much more expensive. Also, now that I think about it, I'm not sure the NZXT Havik 140 would fit in the H230. I had juuuust enough room to get a Corsair A70 in when I built in it the first time.
Anywho, the windowed alternative, also much higher in quality and such, is the Fractal Design Define R4. Its up at $90 though. Granted I don't know a single person here who wouldn't recommend it.

Hmmm I'm afraid that's really starting to push it with the price... and violating the "budget" concept of the build. Granted my hardware consists of pretty much no frills components that get the job done, and do it well. Budget but great price / performance CPU and GPU, basic but solid 970 motherboard, standard HDD and no SSD.

I believe the HAF 912 is really what I should be looking at... no pun intended I really like looking at it biggrin.gif No "unnecessary" luxuries and sugar-coating, think black interior and side-window, plain simple performance for the money. Versatile, functional and practical, worthy over the Rosewill Challenger.

That's just my opinion on the whole outlook of the build. The again, I'm just an amateur builder here and I appreciate the advice of the more experienced. What is your opinion on the HAF 912?

No personal experience with the 912, but haf cases are generally high quality, well worthy over the rosewill you selected. Look at the max cooler size between the nzxt h230 and the had 912. Whichever can hold the bigger cooler is the one id go for if i were you. Well that and whichever is quieter.

Thanks for all the help mate smile.gif Really appreciate it. HAF 912 it is then! Sent off a request for PVC and MDF for cockpit, awaiting quotation. Here's a final run-down of everything, neatly listed on a Newegg public wishlist.

Alternative, strictly budget build. No overclocking. My conscience kicked in and this is what I ended up with... now at purchase point, faced with 2 choices. Strictly budget build in the interest of keeping costs down, borderline max out iRacing, does the job for our racing team... or something a little more "me", enthusiast-friendly, comfortably maxes out iRacing at the required 60 FPS... for roughly $365 more... my conscience is killing me!

I don't expect a response. After all, I'm the one buying the hardware (with our sponsor's money)... I'll keep this post here and ponder over it for a while... what I might do is present both options to the team and see if they're willing to go for the full-on thing, or if they're running tight on money and would rather opt for the budget build.

have you considered adding a TrackiR 5 to your setup?

Nope, no interest in Track iR.

Alright its decided! I'm going for the premium build! What's more, 280X dropped down to $330, looks like I'm swapping the GTX 770 for that! I'll play it safe with the power supply, spend an extra $15 and get the 650W version of the Seasonic G-Series. Always nice to have the headroom.

Quick question: Is the NZXT Phantom 410 a good case? Is it worth the $100 price-tag? I'm all over the thing, but... performance and functionality over looks, that's my motto. Not all the colours are available brand new, though some are available refurbished. Since a case is not an electrical appliance, is it a good idea to get a refurbished one? Are these simply over-stock cases?

Yes, but no, not worth the pricetag.

i would stick with the haf 912, especially since its like 50 bucks cheaper, not worth it, if you want make a plexi side cover if you want a better look down the road.
