Need advice upgrading - Page 2

I had a 7970 running eyefinity and it was okay for BF3 but BF4 it was just too slow..

I did exactly what you did...

Buy a R9 290 reference off a forum used $460

Sold my 7970 $310

I think i could have got a little more for my 7970, but I like passing on a good deal to other forum members.

it was nobrainer. I ended up buying an aftermarket cooler for the R9 290 the Geil model which was $45 or so.

I was OCing my 290 (not unlockable) today and i am getting 40 low, 56 average, 110 high FPS in BF4 settings on High with 3x1080p LCDS

have fun!

A small correction :

-Tri-X 290 is $517 and Tri-X 290X is $641

-Both cards are the OC versions so they are 1040MHz and 1000MHz not 1010MHz and 957MHz

if you are into benching - 290X. just gaming - 290. although, i have only seen a few 290X beat my 290. it is lottery.

^Agreed - but If you have a 1440p 120hz monitor , and sticking with a single GPU - then you may want to consider a 290X. It might mean 5-10fps difference in BF4, and balance the system a tad more.

Get the better if you arent going to buy another card after few days/weeks? If you are going for crossfire the r9 290

Wait...thats 3 2016x1080 monitors? Thats weird. Anyways crossfired 290s would be best i think. Just by pixel count alone, its a bit less than two 2560x1440 panels (which i think the 120hz pair up nice with the X's)

And if theyre only 60hz, then the X's might be slight overkill

6048x1080 with Bezel Compensation biggrin.gif Normally it is 5760x1080

It just occured to me that I might get another card within a few weeks so I guess 290 is the best bang for the buck in that case
