Asus P8P67 Deluxe RAM issue

Thread Starter
Not sure where to post this, sorry if it's in the wrong section.

Before I send in my board to ASUS for warranty service, I'd like to get some idears.

My RAM is not recognizing modules when more than 2 are inserted, regardless of the module or slot; meaning all modules work and all slots work. I believe this happened after doing a BIOS update to the latest after a stale 3 years, I suppose I should reflash.

Crucial Ballistix Smart Tracer of some variant, 4x 2GB.

Try reflashing before sending it off for an RMA. Have you tried scanning your memory for errors? I recommend HCI Memtest Deluxe if you can afford it as it will do a much better job. Otherwise you're stuck with Memtest x86+. It could be that the motherboard is just finicky and doesn't like to run multiple modules of different ratings/brand IC's together. Generally it's not a good idea to mix and match modules but rather better to have all matching modules.

Why did you update the BIOS?

Maybe you can flash the old one back?

Email notification didn't work frown.gif

All the modules are the same, by variant I meant I didn't know the exact model of tracer series.

Updated the BIOS to potentially fix some performance issues I've had over the years, and I like being up to date. I'll reflash if it let's me and reset BIOS.

A little hard to do a memtest when the system doesn't recognize all the modules, I'd have to do 2 at a time.

Just re-flashed to the same version, latest. Reset BIOS to defaults.

Also tried some different modules, still thinks 2/4 installed.

:/

I tried the same thing with mine but it won't even POST with 4 modules inserted on the latest BIOS... (4x 8 GB)

So what did you do to resolve if anything? Downgrade sounds like the only other thing to try.

The only option I found was to keep only using two sticks, which sucks for an ESXi box.
