Speakers for Topping TP30

Hey guys,

I'm finally delving into the world of audio. I've been running an Asus Xense Sound card and PC350 headset combo. It was a huge improvement over onboard and a nice improvement over an Asus DGX and Steelseries Headset. I am ready to take that next step.

I was looking at the Topping TP30 AMP/DAC combo. It seems like the best bang for the buck when it comes to speaker and headphone hookups. Since I use speakers and headphones about 50/50, this looked like the best option.

The question is, what speakers are the best bang for the buck? I am looking to spend under $100 for speakers. I was looking at the following:

Dayton B652 (New - $75 shipped)

Polk Audio Monitor 30 (Used - $70 picked up)

Micca MB42X (New - $100 shipped)

(I'm in Toronto, so shipping from the US. can really add up.)

I am also looking to add a subwoofer down the road. I know the TP30 doesn't have a sub input, but I read that I can split the line from the speakers.

I appreciate the help!

Just get the klipisch pro media 2.1s. I can tell you from experience that the topping amp is a bad buy.

Well I need an amp for my headphones anyways, so I need an amp/dac combo. I've heard good things about the Topping as an entry level combo.

I highly recommend these http://www.monoprice.com/Product?c_id=109&cp_id=10904&cs_id=1090407&p_id=8251&seq=1&format=2

Best bang for your buck around imo. Pair that with a sub from them too, you can run the speaker wire from the amp into the sub, then out from the sub to the speakers. Awesome sound on the cheap.

edit: By the way i just noticed that amp requires sound to be input from USB apparently, which if you could do it at all would totally bypass your Asus sound card, this http://www.amazon.com/Topping-TP21-Digital-Amplifier-Headphone/dp/B005CRLZGE/ref=sr_1_5?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1394038430&sr=1-5&keywords=desktop+amp+with+headphone would serve your stated purposes much better.

I'm getting rid of my Asus sound car, so that won't be a problem. biggrin.gif

EDIT - I just checked shipping from monoprice and I'm looking at $40+. Doesn't make it very attractive anymore unfortunately.

I'd wait for the pioneer bookshelves to go on sale again, those are much better than most of these budget options like the Daytons.

BS21's are $62 on amazon
