Steelseries Sensei - Also Best Buy if you're near one has a stupid deal on them this week. Not the RAW model, I'm talking the Original with the 75mhz ARM CPU on board... 59.99 @ Best Buy all week. My best buy has them at 49.99 for the NON-RAW model. biggrin.gif

Unfortunately, the Sensei uses a hopelessly flawed sensor. On the other hand, it is probably the best ADNS-9500 mouse I ever tried, but still isn't suitable for serious FPS, especially on cloth pads.

Master's Degree here from MIT in EE/CS, I'd really like you to tell me why the sensor is 'flawed'

BS in CoE here, MS coming in a few months. You obviously have not seen this graph, this is the characteristic inconsistent acceleration of ALL ADNS-9500 and ADNS-9800 sensors.

On top of that, the PMW3310 is not only 1:1 unlike the Sensei, but also maxes out in PCS at over 5.3 m/s instead of 4 m/s (the latter speed being within the 150 IPS spec set forth by Avago).

Proof, man. It's painful once you know about it. I bought the Sensei knowing about this issue. It doesn't feel as severe on a hard pad than a cloth pad, not sure why. But if you are missing your flickshot snipes, this is why. I had that issue. Just try pointing at a very specific spot in an FPS, flicking the mouse hard one direction and slowly coming back. You end up at a different spot every time.

I bought the Sensei right when it came out and I have noticed awkward acceleration as well but didn't know if it was me or the mouse...

There are several things to take into account. There is the performance of the sensor, and the shape and other characteristics of the mouse that need to suit your specific anatomy, preferences and playstyle.

I think this thread may be useful for you when choosing a new mouse:

I agree on DA is better to claw grip. I find it pretty awkard to palm grip due to the right side of the mouse. For me claw grip works best on DA. I don't like the Rivals shape at all. Forces you to palm very far back and feels like crap if you don't.
