This is true, I tried to play The Walking Dead Season 2 Episode 2 today on my laptop. My laptop is updated with all the latest security updates and I thought my DirectX was up to date. I launched the game and it said I was missing "d3dx9_41.dll" and the game wouldn't start. I downloaded the DirectX installer and updated and relaunched the game and it worked. A lot of games still use DX9 libraries even if you have the latest DX10 and DX11 files installed. It could just be that Windows 8.1 has compatibility problems with your games. I tried 8.1, I went back to the tried and true Windows 7 with SP1 update. I didn't like Windows 8.1 as it was not compatible with a lot of older software. You either have to wait until those companies update the software or go on and find an alternative to it.

I Googled for info but there's nothing really helpful in solving the problem. The only other thing I can think of is that you need to start Steam as an Administrator and try running all your games as an admin. I know some programs in Windows 8.1 wouldn't run like it would in Windows 7 without forcing the OS to run it as an admin. Try running Steam as an Admin. And worst comes to worst, you could run it in a virtual machine and play the game in slow motion. biggrin.gif
