Well, we don't know that...do we? I know that has been said in the past but that was just because it was the latest version of DX around and even if that is so, the OS on the Xbox is probably simple enough to be updated for it quite easily. There hasn't been any word that the new consoles couldn't be updated with API changes that I've seen.

I still personally feel that DX 11.2 will be the standard for game development as I have a feeling neither of the current gen consoles will get an update to the DX 12 API. It just reflects back to how X360 and PS3 were DX9 equivalents, thus 90% of games were developed for dx9 during those consoles' era and pretty much made DX9c the most widely used API ever; DX10 didn't even take off well and got overshadowed by the more used 11. Now with xbone and ps4, I don't think game development is going any higher than 11.2 or equivalent for a long time since consoles have been setting the baseline standard. I don't think MS will update the API at all on the xbone.

Kinda like a tick tock process it seems for api's out there, just like the Windows OS. I could be wrong of course. The next big api to take off will probably be dx13 for my guess and trend pattern.

unless all DX12 is, is a dx11.2 restructuring. Also, as it's been said 100 times now, while XB1 uses tiled resources, & deferred contexts, it doesn't actually use DX11.2 as we know it, it's heavily modified and is already as close to the hardware has it gets. For all we know, they are simply bringing the console's API to PC's & calling it DX12.

I think (and what most of us are probably are thinking) is that DX12 is just lower level hardware access and less CPU bottleneck version of DX11.2, and if it is just that, then we could see this very early. They could have worked on this since mantle was reviled back in November or whatever. M$ is a huge company and can probabll make an API much faster than mantle was made because they already had DX11.2 as a starting point. I think we could see DX12 on windows 8 in a few months if not less. Or I could be way off and it's a whole new API that will blow DX11.2 out of the water and it will come with Win 9. Guess will wait till 3/20. tongue.gif
