And that is probably true, but DX11.2 isn't required for Tiled Resources...DX11.2 just makes tiles get processed more efficiently and should be easier for developers to use.

Though we could see things like a game that made really heavy use of tiles would make your system give you a slide show if you weren't running DX11.2+ , but I don't know enough about graphics and shader programing to really know for sure what the full extent of it will be.

To me it sounds like PC and maybe even the newer consoles should not be able to handle a lot of tiles even without DX11.2 so and this should be that big of a deal...but a lot people are really hooting about it and they can't all be hyped up over nothing.

I mean... As soon as mantle was announced we started saying "Good, M$ finally has a reason to overhaul DX!"

PS4 is kicking XB1's arse all over the court, they HAVE to do this. boxing3.gif

It may be hype, as people forget limitations still exist. Low level access doesn't mean you can run 4k surround on a single 580...

DX11.2 is the first to consolidate hardware and API support for tiled textures, at least it's the first DX model to do so. AMD has their own implementation for OpenGL via vendor specific extensions. The alternative would be to do it virtually, like Carmack's Megatextures did but that defeats the whole purpose

DX 11.2 was a variant of DX 11.1 which was a variant of DX 11 which was a variant of DX 10. More than likely, DX 12 will be a variant of DX 11.2.

How is this even possible?

If true, then you have to question Microsoft's ability to develop 3D APIs, that's probably the reason why DirectX 12 seems to be a collaboration by AMD, Intel, NVIDIA and Qualcomm. The job of an API for a set hardware configuration/console, is just to be a thin abstraction over the hardware, let every ounce of performance fall on the lap of developers, if DirectX 11.X (that's the API for the XBOX One) really gets updated to DirectX 12, then you really have to question Microsoft here.

Hmmmm. A CTM API built by Microsoft in coordination with all the big players... Possibly hardware extendable or even agnostic.

I really would like that.

Did you read any of the thread? I don't mean to sound rude, it's just been answered multiple times now. DX9 still exists because of Xbox360. By the end of this year dx9 ports will be a thing of the past.

Also, it's highly likely this won't require new hardware to benefit from most of it, if it's going to be working on XB1.
