So is Windows 7 gonna support this or are those pricks gonna force us over to 8/8.1/9?

I'll add some. You can either have an API be very deeply integrated (as DirectX is) and work without user intervention or possibility of major update, or you can have it more failure prone but serviceable. You don't get something for nothing.

Windows 7 is nearly five years old. To expect it to support the latest in gaming just as well as newer software now or three years from now is simply lunacy.

Sigh... People are so afraid of change... You all should be ashamed of your selves! PC Master race didn't become the master race by hiding on old operating systems. This must be part of the reason Mac gets so much hate these days. They push a new OS every 6 months. @least MS only pushes them every 3-5 years!

Yeah, but OS X updates lately have been like $20 or free like Mavericks. They also change a lot less than Windows 8 which looks and feels totally different to the average person. I really don't see DX12 being available on Windows 7 at all. They may even keep it for Windows 9 which is rumored to be coming relatively soon.

I agree with you, though. Out with the old, in with the new!

Well... Just to counter that... windows 8 keys were going for 15-30$ @ launch, depending on where you got them. So, while it's an obscene price now, windows OS are normally really cheep @ launch. Windows 9 has to be a success for M$ or their stock is going to plummet.

Yeah that caught my eye too. About the only interesting take away I got from that overly green, and irritating page.

Now that you mention it, that is very much the Xbox green, isn't it? Guess the follow-up is not too surprising...

So is the Xbox One DirectX 12 announcement good or bad for us? I usually read this as easier porting to PC... sad that I even have to say the word "port" but that's the reality we live in these days.
