Nope. You have to go get a new card if you wanted the new DX.

DX10 was released with Vista...I think it took a year or so for the first DX10 hardware to come out...the 8000 series from Nvida...those were some killer GPUs back in the day. AMD was quite a few months behind Nvidia with their DX10 GPUs. DX11 would work with DX10 GPUs, but some eye candy was missing...so I wouldn't say a new GPU was required for DX11, but it was a good idea or at least I've never heard of a DX11 only game. However, we had DX11 capable GPUs right awy in that case.

I had not even seen a computer yet when DX9 was released so I don't know how that played out.

Note that this is PURE speculation. We have no proof of this yet. Microsoft will be answering all of these questions tomorrow (20th) Since DX12 is designed with the XB1 in mind, I find it hard to believe it will require new hardware @ the start. Remember, XB1 uses 7xxx series GPU. My guess is that DX12 will require win 8.1 & will support GK104/GK107/GK110/Pitcairn/Tahiti/Hawaii.

So basically no historical precedence to base our guesses on then. Probably better to just wait a few more hours.

Well, only the AMD cards support DX11.2...unless that has changed when I wasn't looking. So if anything support DX12 out of the box it will probably be the AMD cards...I hadn't really thought about that till now. Kepler only supports some of the functions of DX11.1. If DX12 is going to expand on the "tiled resources" of DX11.2 then all of Nvidia's current offerings might be out in the cold.

I was under the impression that Nvidia supports 11.2... I thought it was even a bullet point on new product boxes... It would be kinda strange that the pretty old GPU tech in XB1 can use 11.2, but Kepler can not.

In fact, I remember Microsoft doing demos of 11.1/11.2 on 770s.

Nvidia supports only the mandatory functions of DX11.1/DX11.2. While AMD supported all the functions of DX11.2 with Sea Islands.

I was thinking in terms of this...
, but after re-reading that I don't think it will matter that much. There isn't much missing.

However, I can't find anything on 11.2 save for it is supported by AMD's GCN based GPUs and the Xbox One. Nothing saying Nvidia does...nothing other than forum posts and blogs saying Nvidia doesn't support it either, though. No trust worthy source.

I was under the impression that GK104/107/110 can make use of it in games, but that they cant be used to program it... or something... Here is a somewhat trustworthy source.

They are running the 11.2 demo on a 770 @ 2 minutes.

makes sense, kepler is basically ancient @ this point. Remember it was in the enterprise market before it came to our market.

Ahh good to go...it might be just like the DX11.1 situation. Technically, it isn't supported, but since Nvidia took the important pieces out of it and incorporated those into the existing DX11 support so they still get all the benefits.
