Cards are actually rated for continuous use. Mining may degrade the card because of the fact that it's running constantly at 75c+, but it's degrading the card from a 5-10 year lifespan to a 3-5 year span. If your 7870 went out it was either a bad part or old.

the 290 is looking nice thats for sure, And I'd get a cheap one but I literally just couldnt, I'd need a half decent one, I'm surprised at the price of even a 7870, What used to be going down to about ~180 is like $230-240. Agh.... mad.gif

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814125500 only about 50-75$ over MSRP (assuming Gigabyte charges 25-50$ for their cooler).

Just because a card is /was used for mining doesn't mean it will be in a bad condition, It will be in far better condition than most used cards because they are kept at a constant temperature and more often than not, undervolted to reduce consumption, They wont have suffered constant heat cycles.

This myth really needs to go

Yea with that CPU I didn't notice I guess it's better to stay to the mid end, not that it's not worth it but you won't get the maximum amount of frame(minimum mostly) that say a intel 4760k would get you, that's true.

760/770 sounds like a good plan to me yea.

hmm. yeah im not sure. I'm surprised however that this nvidia 650TI which I bought as a temp replacement is playing bf4 on same settings I ran on my 7870, only difference is, is that its got maybe a stead of 10 fps or so less. or atleast on the lower side when the frames drop, so its certainly down but its not a huge hit. I ran 60 fps before, now its 50

so a 770 might be not too bad... Hmmm, I'm not biased when it coems to the brands of course. I just want to help future proof me at the same time if I spend the money. I mean for the price of the 770, I'd hope that I could put bf4 resolution to 200% and run the game all out max'd on 1080p? or maybe I cant? I'm not sure LOL rolleyes.gif
