[Forbes] 'Titanfall' Will Have A Season Pass, Paid And Free DLC - Page 3

the angst this article has inspired is unwarranted and absurd. the world where companies released a ton of content for free after the game was finished never existed - there have always been expansion packs. The only reason DLC exists is because modern technology gives us a way to make small releases of content possible.

Games take millions of dollars in development costs. Modern AAA games are far more expensive than games 10-20 years ago that could be produced by small companies. Coders, artists and directors need to get paid for their work, i don't know why you expect that they shouldn't charge for additional content. If you bought Harry Potter, you wouldn't expect the subsequent books/movies for free.

also, the 48 gb install has already been debunked - the final install size is under 20 gb

I just don't understand the people who say "i'm not going to be supporting this inexpensive, optional, content filled expansion plan because i have delusions about what game releases were like in the past"

SNES games cost 75 dollars!

also, if you pay 60 for titanfall, you don't pay attention - there have been preorder deals for under 50 for the last 3 months.

It's a video game. if these under 50 dollar expenses are such a source of unhappiness for you, maybe you should re-evaluate your hobby choices (it's not going to change) and expectations (things cost money)

This is no different than any other "Season Pass" model out there. Maybe one, these map packs are for a game that is out of beta whereas BF4 is still in beta biggrin.gif

All because of DLC, really. The season pass saves you money if you want all the map packs saving you a little bit over buying them individually and ofcourse you're not obligated to buy the season pass or individual map packs.

I paid for BF 4 AND all the map packs upfront and you know what I got in return?

A FAT PILE OF CRAP!

So yea DLC matters and it does increase the value to a price not worth paying when them is only HALF finished.... Riiight.

BF4 has a bunch of bugs after every up day and I paid them over 100 dollars because I believed it would be a solid and put together game.

Seriously, do you trust any game coming out of EA after BF4 because I don't .

If this game was $39.99 as it should be, then I would consider it and its Season Pass. But at full retail, no dice.

Congrats, hopefully you don't support the majority of game companies either.

You won't pay $60 for a game that releases with 15 maps and with way more maps on the way but you would pay for BF4 with less maps on release and has a 50$ premium service to released already rehashed maps from BF2 and BF3?

Agreed, a lot of these forum members spend over $500 alone on a GPU and then complain that $50-$60 purchases are too much. Learn to budget better and $50 wouldn't be too much.

Screams another premium model.

"We plan to do DLC to support the game. We’re going to do paid DLC. We’re also going to do free updates,” he said. “We’re going to add in – there’s things that we want in the game that we didn’t get to ship in the final game, so we’ll add private matches and things like that for free. We’re going to do a season pass just because if you buy it up front, you get a deal. We’re not doing micro-transactions. So, you know, a season pass is just, buy it up front and get a better price.”

So we get the game finished months later for free? That's what i got out of that, that the natural upkeep of a game is now considered DLC?

For the 1000000000th, time since none of you seem to grasp this concept.

EA is a publisher. They publish the game. They did not make Titanfall. They are not in charge of the map packs or how the game moves forward. They are ONLY in charge of publishing the game and distributing the game, that's it. Period. Done. End.

Please for the love of god, all of you, stop claiming this game is in any way/shape/form/function a product of EA, it is NOT.

Free updates are essentially patches and private 1v1's that are extras. Extras are not initially included, no...Because they're extras. They're made post launch, IE after the FULL PRODUCT launches.

When the extra features are coded, they will become free. However, maps and other content are not free, they're premium.

Which is basically the way it's always been done prior to BF4...In fact, I can name about 30 games, off of the top of my head, Bioshock, included that have followed this exact model and nobody said a word so, let's move on, shall we?

Also: Comparing this game to BF4 is rather stupid. DICE is owned by EA in it's entirety. Respawn is owned by the guys that made Call of Duty what it was...They left Infinity Ward to make their own company. Ironically, as we all know, Infinity Ward basically releases the same game every year...It's actually the game/source code that West and Zampella designed so...Yeah.

Didn't realize my simple statement lead you to think that I insinuated that I think that BF4 + Premium is a smart buy. It most certainly is not.

I've played the Titanfall beta and have bought my copy (£28), I also played the BF4 beta and guess what I didn't buy premium or BF4 at all I waited until I got BF4 for £12 as it is not finished. If you played the BF4 beta and still pre-ordered and bought premium etc. you only have yourself to blame.

DLC is optional that is it you do not have to buy it simple as that. DLC only adds value if you want it to i.e. if you buy it and like it.

Right? Mind you SNES and Genesis games cost upwards of $75 IN 1993!. Let's adjust for inflation and see how much that is now.
While day one DLC is down right shiesty and shouldn't exist, game companies have always charged for extra content post release.

Battlefield 1 and 2 had paid expansions and that was before DICE was owned by EA.

MechWarrior 3 and 4 - paid expansions... lots of them.

Warcraft 2 & 3? - Paid expansions

Half-Life 2? Two paid expansions (But they were reeeeeeeeeeally good)

Diablo 2 - Paid expansions

Doom 2 - Though not official, Paid expansions.

Command & Conquer - Paid expansions (Another one before EA ruined them)

Sonic the Hedgehog 3 - Paid expansion ( Sonic & Knuckles for you kiddies out there) And this was on a console in the early 90's.

Let's not even get started on Street Fighter and/or Mortal Kombat back in the 90's

EA did not invent this model and it is not a recent occurrence. Seriously people go froth at the mouth over real issues... Like data caps or Half-Life 3 or something.
