why does EA even bother with other vendors? just make everyone buy from EA and keep the profit themselves?

free advertising, right? GMG isn't sitting on boxes of merch, and i doubt they "eat" the losses on unsold digital codes

In addition to that, its why the financial system tracks inventories. Companies don't keep merchandise on hand as it costs them money, which is why tracking inventories is an indicator of economy strength.

That's an easy answer. They would not be able to reach the same amount of people. There are people who refuse to buy online still and will only do it at a store. Keeping everything in house would most likely cost them more in overall profits than sharing does. You can bet if they thought keeping all the sales in house would net them more they would do it. You are right in your sense that their number one thing to do is to make money, but part of that revolves around the customer being happy. So while they seem like this evil corp, they are doing a ton of research into what the market is dictating.

Edit:

In addition they have contracts with the developers they do not own stipulating what they have to do. As the publisher EA has to look out for Respawn's interest in the game. It may have been a stipulation that for EA to publish it had to be only on origin, but respawn agreed to that its not something Origin can decide becuase being on Steam as well would probably net more sales over all and more profit for both companies but origin is an investment for EA and they want to promote it, and respawn was on board.

I've been a vendor for 3 years as of next month -- I own a computer/networking business. thumb.gif

You clearly don't know how this works because the credit is advanced to corporate and units are delivered to the store. Direct payments go to the distributor or corporate.

I actually have the same distributor as Best Buy.

If I really wanted 5000 units of Titanfall right now, I get a pallet on credit. Every unit I don't sell within X period, I get a credit towards. If I go beyond X period, I get a reduced rate...But, I'm also paying cost, $45/unit so, if I want to sell them below MSRP with the assistance of a "discount", I'm free to do that within my contract for a certain amount of units...

Buying inventory out-right would be the dumbest business decision a business could ever make -- What happens with unsold inventory? You just eat it?

We're also having 2 completely different conversations.

1 of YOU believe that everything is overpriced and all developers/publishers are thieves.

1 of YOU believe...Actually I have no idea because Artev has changed his mind/context 5 or 6 times in the previous posts so, when he lands and facilitates an actual idea, I'll get back to you. (Notice the generalization vs. individualization? wink.gif )

All I can say is that I just don't agree with you guys. Nothing else can really be said. You can attack my intelligence and others with similar views, you can say "we don't understand basic economics" all you want to. That does not make it true.

You see when you do that you're making a companies economic standing part of the consumers responsibility which is simply not true or fair. It is not in anyway shape or form my responsibility for the economic well being of any company.

If I own a company, or if I have shares in a company then it would be my responsibility. As it stands EA does not give me one single cent towards any of my bills, towards putting any food on the table for my children to eat or any dollar in my pocket for anything. Yet somehow you think it's my problem to help ensure their economic stability.

The only leg you have to stand on (which I agree is a pretty strong one and quite valid) is the morality of the entire situation. Is it moral for someone to snatch up something at a cheaper price that was meant for someone else? I can understand where you are coming from there and as I said that is a valid concern. However I do not believe I have any right what so ever to tell someone else what their moral stance should be.

Not to bring up other issues because I swear I'm really not trying to derail the topic but this isn't all that different from other hot button moral issues such as abortion. Is it legal? Yes. However you'll find many people on both sides of the coin who either think it's morally acceptable or not. What right does anyone have to tell others they are wrong? Can you say in your opinion it's bad? Sure, and I have no problem with that what so ever. When you start getting on a high horse though and attacking other peoples intelligence just b/c they don't fall on the same side you do as far as a moral argument though, then I think you're wrong.

I mostly agree with your stance, actually. I don't completely agree but, there will never be an agreement on the nature of this topic, regardless.

The reality is that we're at the whim of the publisher so, it's really a waiting game.

On that I can agree with. I guess we'll all know soon enough.
