Amd processors do better at gaming and streaming at the same time and in some cases better in gaming vs intel. Sorry for coming in the tail end of this thread but I think the amd is gonna cook just fine for the next few years in terms of gaming. Good luck thumb.gif

Why would you replace the 8350 with a 9xxx series? The 9xxx series is the same CPU with a factory OC, it would be pointless to spend the money on what you already can do for free with your current rig.

Also, at the current pricing of 290X, I would go with 780 ti.

So my suggestion would be....

Sell off your 7970s to Miners, since they are paying out the nose, and replace them with 780 Tis in SLI, OC your processor if you haven't already, and be happy.

well from what ive seen so far from bechmarks for the AMD FX-9590 it seems to perform much better than the fx-8350 (OBV at stock settings) lol but my 8350 i did not win the lottery with and it can only go to 4.5 stable even under water anything above that it freezes and heats up like a oven and to be honest im just going to run the 9590 at stock with turbo core enabled maybe at some point depending on the chip i get (if im lucky) ill set it at 5.0 ghz 24/7 and for the r9 290x at newegg the asus DCU2 is down to 620 bux lowest ive seen in a while for aftermarket design card...

For the price difference between the two options i originally posted im ok with a 10 FPS difference lol

What thermal compound are you using on your CPU? Have you checked the mount itself, making sure it is applying proper pressure and is a good mount? A lot of people that have issues with OC I find don't use high enough end thermal compound, have a bad mount, and/or didn't apply the right amount of thermal compound.

Also, don't buy the 4960X, that is a huge waist, you would want to look at the 4930K at half the cost.

Another point to consider on the FX 9590; you may not have any OC room on the chip over what is factory. Again, it is the same that you already have, just with a factory OC. The one "advantage" it has is that it is higher binned, to ensure the factory OC, but that doesn't translate into guaranteed OC beyond that.

You pretty much just look at it as they went through the process of cherry picking and OCing for you.

EDIT: I also just wanted to point out something, and this might come across as mean....

If you can only get a 300 Mhz OC on that 8350, you are doing something wrong or something is broken, flat out. Either your mount and thermal compound is bad or not done right, or your board is having an issue.

From experience, the results you are seeing are 99% due to the end user just not doing it properly, followed by a bad board.

EDIT 2: What temps are you getting at your 4.5? Did you properly bleed the water loop to get the air out of the rad?

im def not denying that it could totally be my fault lol there is about a 99% chance that it is but the air is bled out of the loop at 4.5 with 100 % all cores i hit 122 degrees F at 1.45v

I would replace that with.....

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835426020

Non-conductive, and puts a smack down on AS5 in temps.

50c isn't too bad, most suggest anything between 55c and 60c for 24/7 use is fine. I believe AMD said it is fine up to 62c on core, but people give that a couple Celsius headroom.

Also, what is your voltage at stock speeds? Stock voltage is going to vary from CPU to CPU, some people have gotten 8350s out of the box with a stock voltage of 1.42 1.43. Looking at voltage, you should be safe up to 1.5v.

I would honestly replace your thermal compound, remount the waterblock to the cpu, and give the OC thing a bit of a go. The difference between something stable at 4.6 or 4.8 Ghz might be as little as a small tweak on one metric. OC is funny that way, you might think you are miles away from a nice stable OC, but in truth you are just right there and can't see it.
