It doesn't say what speed the pcie slot the M.2 drive runs at to get >sata3 speeds. My maximus board has a slot for a M.2 drive but it is pcie 2.0 x1 so it is limited to 500MB/s. Too bad they crippled that slot as this is the kind of drive that board would be begging for.

Aren't M.2 SSDs the ones that go in mini PCI express slots like msata? I think it was ASUS that was trying to push this standard?

The drives I listed like 840 Evo/M500/Seagate 600 far out perform drives like Vertex 3 & M4(espically in sequential and random writes) and are now significantly cheaper than those drive used to be. As for whether Seagate 600 is any good, Here is the Anandtech review , it is by far the best budget drive based on the reviews I see.
