IMO I think we could see a 360 or PS3 emulator running simpler 3D games in 4-7 years time if development continues at a steady pace, and also hardware performance increments over the years,
taking into account of the previous emulators development cycle. (PCSX2, Dolphin)
They seem to have been around 10-12 years, the earliest years were probably some of the early stages we're seeing from rpcs3 or even just getting hardware emulation going without much if any video output.

PCSX2 and Dolphin only use 2 cores by default

In the speedhacks options in PCSX2 v1.0 or newer, there is an option that allows you to use 3rd core, but you only get small boost in performance from what heard.

Dolphin can also use three cores if you use LLE audio with LLE on thread turned on. However, putting LLE on thread can cause problems in many games. It is also much slower than HLE

If emulation became Commercial it'd probably lose interest.
And the companies behind the consoles would be bound to sue them for basically reverse-engineering consoles (/code) and reselling it.

I wonder if the new cpu optimizations on DirectX 12 or Mantle would help running this thinking.gif

Downloading bioses for video cards off the internet is technically illegal as well, but no one really cares

Totally depends on where you're from and those 64/128kb files don't contain any content and are pure hex files.

Several reasons for this.

1) Right now, the team working on rpcs3 is very small. I don't any of them personally, but they probably do other things besides coding the emu, so they do it on their own spare time.

2) It can be very difficult to code an emulator when you don't have any of the official documentation on the original console's components. One example of this is the original Xbox. Some people will say "but shouldn't it be easy, since the Xbox was just basically a PC inside a box?" (In reference to the fact that it had an Nvidia-based GPU and a Pentium III-derived CPU, and used a modified Windows kernal). Well, not really. For one, the GPU was customized, so they couldn't just go and get documentation on pre-existing desktop consumer GPU's and call it a day. The Xbox's sound chips and drivers never had their documentation released or leaked, so it still hasn't been properly emulated or cracked to this day.

Couple that with the overall lack of interest in Xbox emu development (most games on Xbox were also released on PS2, Gamecube, and PC, and the few exclusives it had weren't mind-blowing), and Xbox emu development is still pretty much nowhere substantial even in 2014.

The PS3's architecture was just as, if not moreso complex than the PS2's, so that doesn't help matters at all. So it will be quite some time before people will be playing their PS3 games on the PC, but at least development is moving along at a surprising rate.

Impressive progress nevertheless. Was looking around today in the net to see if there is any other PS3 emulator projects that would be close to working and while there seems to be some that claim they do the chatter related to these seems to be somewhat chaotic in this regard. So - is there any other PS3 emulator projects that are as far as the video posted in OP actually? Or is this (pretty decent already) project my only hope of getting to play DUST 514 at last on my mighty PC?

Sweet, I guess within 3 yrs or so hardware should be powerful enough to push games properly. Either ways, its always great to see these developments.

No, basically.
