As much as this sounds great in an ideal world where everything works like it should and like clockwork, I can see this causing major havok and injuries.
Imagine if everybody had an RC plane and decided to fly it in their neighbourhood just like that, over people, houses, cars, etc. One of these things falling from the skies at terminal velocity (intentionally or due to failure) can cause fatalities and major destruction. Imagine you're sleeping at night and one comes crashing down through the roof right into your bed. And given the small size of these things, even in broad daylight, you may not even see it coming.
We already have planes, and that is already a carefully considered scenario with planned routes and highly skilled professionals. Adding drones in the mix will at the very least statistically raise the fatality and damage rate caused by flying objects, even more when you consider that drones like these fly lower than planes, so any intentional wrongdoing is at the reach of more people. And then there's helicopters, I don't even want to imagine how helicopter pilots feel about this.
Sorry, I just can't see anything good coming from this.Edited by tpi2007 - 3/7/14 at 11:39am
