[TC] Commercial Drones Are Now Legal, According To Federal Ruling - Page 3

I'd just like to point out again that drones typically aren't autonomous, and still have pilots even if they're not along for the ride...

It all comes down to a cost-benefit question. I think there are many security questions to tackle first. If these things become generalized, it's not out of the equation that groceries would be delivered in the same way.

For people living in densely populated areas like cities, where people live in buildings, the only way this would work is if the roofs have a landing pad like MacG32 said and each apartment owner has a secure oversized mailbox container where the packages are delivered. It will take some time for this to happen on a mass scale though.

I do agree, we are still in the beginning of the 21st century, people have this "When are we going to start living in the future ?" kind of vibe sometimes.

If Amazon, Newegg and supermarkets start to deploy drones to make home deliveries in the future, the best you can feasibly have is a control center to monitor that things are going along as predicted, it would be unrealistic to expect each drone to be manually controlled.

I'd be standing outside an Amazon depo with a shotgun screaming "PULL"...

If's more fun to down them with an airgun biggrin.gif

They'll never find who did it. A simple impact on one of the rotors is enough to down the vast majority of them. Hexas are more invulnerable, but a strike to the center mass downs them, as they usually have no protection other than a lexan shell.

Yes, sure. There's always the risk of a drone failing, falling out of the sky, and landing on someone's head. There's also the risk of any everyday airline jet spiraling down in flames into downtown. I'm sure commercial regulations will require some sort of backup safety system to reduce these incidents (much like they do for actual aircraft...)

When we're taking off or following a 3 degree glideslope to a landing we're flying really low. Drones wouldn't be flying at 20ft off the ground as they wouldn't clear most houses at that altitude, they'd have to fly at higher altitudes where they won't have to be making continuous altitude changes. It's a funny concept but I don't think it'll become mainstream anytime soon, just the cost of operating such vehicle for such a small cargo will make it completely unprofitable. Unlike a truck, if it has any technical problem or if the weather goes bad, it can just pull over. Anything that flies will have to come down eventually and it's very likely that it'll destroy its shipment upon impact, and whatever/whoever it crashes into. I feel the same way about cops flying drones over the US, it's just a matter of time until one collides with an airplane because the xbox player on the other end got distracted, broke a rule or flew the thing into weather it couldn't handle and went off-course/lost altitude.
