Surface Pro 2 or Macbook Pro for Photography - Page 2

I'd go for the 15'' macbook pro retina for this. It's a super nice and very portable (not as much as 13'' but still very portable) and should be perfect for your work smile.gif

Yep the MacBook Pro would be a better bet. Photoshop and Lightroom really like the extra RAM and a good GPU so the MBP is your better bet. The GPU isn't that great in the Surface Pro 2, but the Iris in the MacBook Pros are similar in power to a GeForce 640 desktop and about 2x faster than the 4600 integrated graphics seen in non-Iris laptops.

I'm still going on a late 2008 MacBook aluminum here with a 2GHz Core 2 Duo, 4GB RAM, and a 9400M with CS6 and Aperture. It's sluggish, but can still get me through photo editing and organizing.

I would say any macbook over the surface for that type of work.

I have both and let you tell you what you can expect since I use my portable computers for photography.

MacBook Pro

Great device. Use it mostly for Photography stuff. The screen is awesome, color is almost perfect and you won't run into a lot of problems with the software. But if you use plugins for photo editing then be ready to wait. Most of the time the updates comes months after update for windows come out. For photo editing you will want a pen tablet like Wacom or monoprice graphic slate and if you plan on tethering your photos to Lightroom then macbook tends to be little heavy to carry around with all the equipments you plan to carry to your photo shoot.

Surface Pro

Small screen but since the screen is touch screen and comes with Wacom pen it saves you money on buying and pen tablet or carrying around one. It lighter than macbook so you can carry it around for on the go photo editing. When it comes to power, it is as powerful as mac but for some reason my windows 8 keep crashing so I have to refresh it every other months (maybe its just my windows luck).

Hope this helps and let me know if you have any other questions.

Sorry for the late reply. But I actually bought the surface pro 2 128gb two nights ago. After playing around with it for the night and the whole day next day; I decided to return it. It ran lightroom/photoshop fine, but the screen was so tiny that it was very straining to my eyes frown.gif.

So I ended up building a computer again thumb.gif

Although I must say that the device itself is phenomenal and the portability is awesome.
