[Various] Subpar visuals in Watch_Dogs Ubisoft Frightened Due to Backlash - Page 16

I really don't understand why people get all butthurt over graphics these days. Gameplay and story are most important. Hell dude, look at FFVI. AMAZING story but the graphics were... to be desired >.>

This kind of sucks. More so than this news, I was really bummed and let down by the Uplay store and user experience of it. Completely terrible.

....These days, we should see progression, not regression in graphics especially with all the "next gen" hype, Thanks to consoles, it isn't happening.nearly as fast as it could. Graphics, at least for me, are conducive to a great and immersive story. I just can't be drawn in to the game if it looks like top notch graphics from a decade ago. I just can't have one without the other for this type of game and I don't think I'm alone. Actually, I know I'm not alone being on a forum of so many gamers with high end pc's. biggrin.gif

Disclaimer: I love Nintendo games. That means I'm a fan of excellent gameplay, as well as graphics that's not necessarily high end but stylistic and complementary to the game. I also adore the ultra realistic, hardware destroying visuals you can only get with the likes of Crysis, TW2, etc.

With that out of the way, I'd like to address some issues a large number of posters seem to be ignoring in this thread.
  1. Whether the final product looks better than Crysis or worse than Half Life (1), by itself, is entirely irrelevant. What is, is whether it looks like what was advertised or equivalently based on prior - and very, VERY official - promotional material;
  2. Contrary to very popular belief, the final product for the consoles will have a major influence on the PC version. Look no further than the release of Far Cry 3 as evidence of Ubisoft willingness to compromise in development assets to shorten the perceived gap between different versions of a game.

I personally am looking forward to a new I from the minds that gave us Splinter Cell and Assassin's Creed. If it turns out as successful as other risky AAA ventures like Dishonored, then I'll be much more grateful towards the games industry.

But that's not the issue at play in this very worrying complication of Watch Dog's development. The game was advertised to be something different than this current gameplay video suggests, that is a game with much better visuals. If they had run with this level of graphics since last year, it wouldn't be nearly a problem, but they instead misled the public of its quality. That's not ethical, and very likely neither is it legal.

That issue in and of itself should worry every single customer that preordered or is looking to purchase the game, but let's assume Ubisoft gets away with it. If they release a shoddy console game, consider that they have a strong relationship with the console makers, one which they have a strong incentive to maintain on a positive state. Considering their handling of Far Cry 3 and similar games, would you be willing to bet that they would still let the PC version look a great amount better than what's on the consoles?

Man, first of all, nice post! thumb.gif

I agree with pretty much everything you said. The reason poo started to hit the fan in regards to Watch Dogs was not simply because of graphics quality but rather the discrepancy between the initial game play footage and the more recent. I'm not so sure this would even be an issue had the demo showcased at e3 2012 looked like the latest trailer. It never was how it looked so much as being mislead. Granted, I wouldn't have been nearly as hyped about the game if they had shown the latest gameplay footage on its announcement.

I remember the ACM ordeal clear as day and all the discussion on here, steam, sega, gearbox forums and other random gamer community sites. It feels like deja vu. Did anything ever become of that out cry? In the end, not really. Sega and Gearbox made bank on preorder sales and I felt like, unfortunately, they had the last laugh. I remember people crying "false advertising" this "class action lawsuit" that....Nothing ever happened. The game just went down as one of the worst games in recent history but really did not affect much of anything besides hopefully giving customers a wake up call.

Watchdogs/Ubi is just proof that the game industry was not shaken up by that situation. They are still just as arrogant as ever. They still take customers for idiots.

This is worse than the whole ACM offense. And to all the people saying that they are waiting for its epic gameplay - well, if they can make one aspect of the game crappier than advertised, then rest assured they can do the same with the other parts. Its not the graphics downgrade, its that they were being dishonest. Funding them will only continue this habit and may spread to other companies.

I don't get it at all. And I certainly don't understand why Ubi hasn't come out and said anything at all. Will wait and see with this game. I will buy it if it looks good on PC, but other than that, I am not gonna support this behavior. Plenty of other games coming out this year...

Has nothing to do with that. It has to do with the fact that they showed off a much better looking product 2 years ago, and 2 years later, it's regressed to not looking half as good as it did.

Gameplay is my bread and butter, but don't advertise a certain visual appeal (which is what that original gameplay demo in 2012 was purposed in doing) and then crap all over it 2 months before launch.

as every they said about my post it's the principle. like a sales man selling a beautiful car. perfect pain and only till you get home the transmission is ruined. Except a good games with nit so ultra great graphics is still a good game but the point is in this day and age they should show the graphics as they are in the game.

Also being a next gen title people were really excited to the next level of graphics.
