Gigabyte 970A-UD3P

Very interesting motherboard! Its only $99 on Newegg... is this the good old 970A-UD3 with a black PCB?

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813128651

I'm looking to get this motherboard and pairing it with an FX-6300, now a few questions:

1) Is it a viable option over the 990FXA-UD3? I won't be using SLI or Crossfire
2) Do you need a 990FX motherboard for optimum performance of the 6 and 8 core FX processors? Or is the only difference between 970 and 990FX chipset the ability to SLI and / or Crossfire at 16x / 8x? This board has the typical 8+2 power phase design of the higher-end 990FX boards.

Very viable option. I run my 6300 on the 970A-UD3 Rev. 1.1 and I can run well into the 5GHz range for benching.

Its a great budget board, I wouldn't hesitate to get it if I needed a new board.

It's an extremely viable option, even if you do decide to Crossfire down the road. I've been looking at that exact combination to upgrade my rig.

Great stuff, really liking this board.

On the other hand, I am also considering this here: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813128565

Its a newer version of the 78lmt-s2p (rev3.1), the one that had a quality 4+1 power phase design. If I were to not overclock the FX-6300, or just mildly (increase clock speed at stock voltage), would this motherboard be a good option?

I'm normally against micro-ATX motherboards in mid-tower cases... it looks plain stupid, and I am very picky when it comes to looks, especially when there's a side-window... but this here's quite unbeatable for the price, it has the full width of ATX... and that dark brown PCB... might turn out to look quite good!

If you're going to be running the 6300 hard, you might destroy the VRM on that 78LMT board.

Definitely don't want that happening. 970A-UD3P it is then! Thanks!

Still amazed at the price of this decent 8+2 power phase motherboard. $89.99 after combo savings with the FX-6300!

Yes, it is a great board so far. I picked one up from Micro Center for $89.

The only difference between it and the 990FXA series is the HT Link speed and the PCIe configuration. Both are non-factors for my use.

I've had my 8320 to 4.8GHz not (really) stress tested and to 4.6GHz stress tested, both on stock voltage settings, although I run it at stock speed most of the time.

I highly recommend it if it fits your needs.
