Tech tips for AMD GPU owners experiencing problems.

Thread Starter
Alright so you've bought yourself either the new series or the previous (R-Series and 7k-series). From my personal experience and reading other people's problems I've come to the conclusion that the new GPUs can be twitchy with the new APUs and some of the new Intel processors. Such problems are 2D clocks crashing drivers and, or not properly scaling when needed like running either Bluray movies. It could very well be the result of drivers or the combination of all parts together.

Number guide to resolving your problem.
If you hit no stop and look up your problem below at the index. If you experience more problems keep checking them off.

1.) Does your GPU post? Y/N
2.) Doesn't show discoloration while booting. Y/N
3.) Doesn't hang on loading your operating system. Y/N
4.) A black screen does not appear when you first load into Windows 8? skip if irrelevant. Y/N
5.) Normal tasks and operations on your desktop do not show artifacts or black blotches. Y/N
6.) Games do not crash to desktop. Y/N
7.) My resolutions for my screen all show up correctly.Y/N
8.) Gaming I experience artifacts but not immediately. Y/N
9.) While playing a game I do not experience artifacts(immediately happens). Y/N
10.) While using the computer I don't experience black screens I can not recover from.Y/N
11.) While watching videos I do not experience stuttering. Y/N

Group A)
Problems 1, 2, 9 and 10.
These are some major issues. There is almost guaranteed equipment failure. I recommend an RMA as the best course of action.

Group B)
Problems 3, 4, 6 and 7
These issues are usually related to your drivers. With Windows 8 I've experienced it getting stuck and unable to cleanly remove drivers unlike previous OS's and sometimes the best course of action is a system restore and then repairing your drivers.

Group C)
Problems 5, 8 and 11
These problems are usually a result of bad drivers or clock-rate sometimes a combination of both. Sometimes the 2D clock rate is not sustainable between several GPUs because crappy beta drivers. Install something like ASUS GPU Tweak and overclock your 2D clock so the memory and core doesn't idle too low. Underclock if overclocked.

If you're experiencing multiple problems that cross between groups follow these instructions.
Anything with Group A should be RMA'd period. If you have both problems in Group B and C cleanly reinstall your GPU drivers and if the problems persist move to Group C's Instructions. If none of these resolve your problems identify if other hardware may be conflicting such as a bad PSU, even your choice in audio settings like 384khz audio. Also remember to always pay attention to your temperature, sub 80c is fine but 75c is golden!

I'll add more in the future and you're all welcome to add to this by submitting a suggestion below. Please check suggestions below if you're unable to resolve problems with my guide.

maybe add this fix for any GPU's

if experiencing artifacts while gaming? Is the Card OC'ed? if OC' try lowering the OC or put back to stock clock.

I also experience that even though benchmarks are running fine, even GPU and CPU is at stock clock, I still experience BSOD, or games crashing. Have found out that memory was not stable. Lose timings or lower memory clock fix it thumb.gif
