Push/Pull Fan Configuration w/FC Touch Controller - Question - Page 3

Sorry cgipson1, for some reason, your pics are not showing for me. So I can't answer just now. mad.gif

But I can tell you that 2 of my 4 splitters got loose headers and went to splitter heaven. The other two received the epoxy coat treatment on the back side.

But I am not always a gentleman with my stuff. biggrin.gif

I prefer to mount the port PCB's in my case just with velcro.... Either industrial grade adhesive velcro, or attach velcro to the back of the board with electronics compatible silicone. That way it sits right on the case and gets a lot more support. (and yes.. I am careful to make sure it can't short, lol!)

Also, the loosening headers issue might be specific to my splitter.
On mine, as you push your connector onto the header, you basically end up pushing down on the pins which are going throught the board. So that action eventually loosens up the header pins and contact gets lost.

With the 4-pin ones, connecting doesn't result in pushing down on the pins. You basically are pushing on a 90° angle to the axis.
In addition to that, the 4 pins all have a solder on for 4 beads of solder. My 2-pin headers are only held by two solder beads.
So the 4-pin laid down headers are undoubtedly a stronger build than my 3-pin and 2-pin stood up headers.
I'd probably go with the 4-pin one if I had to do it again.

Edit: As it turns out, just like my 3-pin splitter, the 4-pin splitter has all the headers but one standing up. So they'd still be sturdier due to being held by 4 solder beads instead of 2 or 3. But they have the same weakness of being stood up.

Your splitter didn't come with a velcro strip already glued on?
Weird because all mine did, and from the same ModMyToy maker too.

Yes.. they did. But I took it off so I could remove (de-solder) the 4-pin Molex that was on the boards I used. I wanted to solder the Fan pigtail connector directly to the board.

You buy one of these for every channel you intend to use for multiple fans.
You plug all your fans into it.
And you connect the splitter to your controller using this cable.
Done!

Actually, I would recommend the Lamptron CW611 over the Aqua 5.
Cheaper too.
