I am curious of what ASIC people have got?
I mean it hasn't been proved that higher ASIC means a better OC but when people are struggling so much with OCs on these things.
The more data we have, the better.

Some may disagree, but with the 79** series cards, 65-70% seemed to be the sweetspot. Most of the cards I saw that could do 1350+ on water fell into this catagory. Not that all cards at this asic could, but that when asked, people with core oc over 1350 had a asic in this range from my experience. As FTW420 pointed out the better components help, but it still comes down to silicon lottery. If a manufacturer truly binned the chips and coupled them with higher quality components, that would really be a great thing for oc'ers. Evga seems to have done this to an extent in that most of the Kingpins I've seen have an asic of between 60-70%. But asic percentage isn't everything.

Still waiting for Lightning full coverage waterblock to come out as well. It was said in EK thread to be coming out this week. Still hasn't though.

What is the point of buying a Lightning if it OCs no more than a reference card...?

I think there isn't enough feedback and facts yet. I haven't seen any info stating MSI does or does not bin these cards. Not a lot of people are posting asic%. That said , it does seem like most have been clocking 1200+ on air which is pretty good. Once the waterblock comes out and more oc'ing comes in we may be able to have a clearer picture, I think it's still too early to say for sure. It would be nice if they had a rep on OCN to give some facts like Jacob from EVGA.

@OZrevhead - Mine clocked to 1220 on air without much effort. That definitely isn't shabby. Unfortunately I did have to send it back for replacement. I'm looking forward to receiving the new one. I wouldn't count this card out yet. Still have a slew of watercooled benches to be done with these. Where are you at with yours?

i wonder what people will see on water with these, since 1250ish seems to bee the spot on air, and so far our sample size for ln2 has shown around the high 1300s.

It really creeps me out there being no Fan Speed shown, or Fan Settings in AB 3.0.0 Beta 19.
Is there no way to get this function working?
I installed the MSI VGA Fan Control, but it ain't the same thing as the AB interface.
I like setting the fans to 70% just before benching but there's no confirmation through AB.
I read through the 1st page of this thread (100 posts) and I'm more confused than ever.
AB is just so simple to use with my EVGA GTX 780 Ti's, but using it with these Lightnings is just as strange as can be.
Is the install and operation of AB with non-reference settings enabled the same for all versions of AMD drivers?
When I installed these cards I didn't use the install disk.
All the items were/are out of date so I downloaded each of the latest drivers and CCC.
Should I go back and remove all these downloads and start all over with the programs as they are on the install disk?
I read somewhere that there is an app that has all the proper profile settings for games. I don't know anything about that and can't find the post again.
Luckily, both the serial numbers of these cards are in sequence and the ASIC Quality is almost matched perfectly with each card.
The ASIC for the top card is 74.6% and the 2nd card reads 74.8%, so they're equally matched.
I need to get these cards on the Firestrike HOF. Any help using AB to do it will be appreciated, as I'm no longer used to OCing AMD vga's.
I have no trouble with my other computer with a pair of EVGA GTX 780 Ti K|NGP|N Editions, but OCing these AMD's is strange to me.

The only way to get fan control is to use the 13.12 driver none of the 14 betas seem to have it, an AMD issue that I hope is fixed in the next Driver.

This thread is making me trying to justify getting crossfired lightnings. Already have xfire ref 290x under water that can reach 1200 core with 1500-1600( Hynix + Elpida). And to think I was going to try and get a third ref card. The lightnings seem like more of a guarantee for better performance, still no matter what you get good memory thumb.gif Wonder how well a lightning main card, and 1 or 2 ref slave cards would run?

I know what you mean. I feel that way about Nvidia. I think AMD is much easier. Having to pick a particular bios to flash, a matched voltage tool, and Precision X seems excessive with Nvidia compared to just using a tweaked Afterburner for AMD.

FYI - Price has dropped from $749.99 to $699.99 at Newegg. If you bought the card within the last 14 days, you can get a full price match and receive $50 back. If you had bought it within the last 30 days, they will give half and will receive $25.00 back. Either to credit card, ect. or gift card.
