Hey guys I am thinking of going for either a 4670k or a 4770k. Now my question is would my old Prolimatech Megahalems be able to cool it? I am going to do a push pull with if if i have to. I do like some overclocking but was just wondering if i could save some money for now and use the megahalem. And would you guys recomend the MSI Z87-g45 GAMING LGA 1150 Intel Z87?

Every heatsink or clc with a clock over 4.4ghz would need delidding the cpu.due to the bad quality tim under the ihs and the spacing between them

Yea i heard about the delidding part but will the cooler be able to cool the chip?

Even with a delidded chip the megahalems can keep 4.7/4.9ghz if the voltage isnt too high

megahalems are one of the best on the market. No doubt it will run it at safe temps.

You will either be limited by your cooler or your chip. With air cooling you will be able to go between 4.2 and 4.5, depending on how good the chip is (I would say expect the lower end) with temperatures, without deliding. If you go water cooling, you may hit a core voltage wall with the processor anyhow. If you go air, and get a good chip, then you will be limited by the air and need to delid to go to overclocks of 4.5 or so higher. Hard call.

I went with air cooling (since I had it), got a mediocre 4770k, and wouldn't have been comfortable OC to past 4.3 at the voltages I would need water or air. If I would have got a good chip, I might have invested in a Swiftech h220.
