My main purpose for the use of either of these is to game. They're around the same price.

Samsung 2160p Pros:
2160p
Future proof (even though I hate that word)
Scales perfectly with 1080p

Samsung 2160p Cons:
TN
Only 60 Hz
No G-Sync
No strobe

ROG Swift Pros:
144 Hz
G-Sync
Strobe
Games aren't as demanding

ROG Swift Cons:
1440p instead of 2160p
TN
Expensive for 1440p

I am not considering the Korean panels, because they don't have Strobe or G-Sync, even though they are IPS/PLS. They are also not guaranteed to have perfect pixels, and are not guaranteed overclockers. I also hate backlight bleed.

I am looking at the ROG swift myself to replace my U2711.

Considering that your intention is gaming I would have to go with the ROG swift hands down.

- 144Hz will be nice with your older games and give you a lot of headroom and combined with strobe you'll see nice effects in fast paced games
- The Swift is much better suited for 3D if you are into that
- 1440p at high frame rates is more than enough to put some serious draw on your PC
- There's a chance we will see hacks/drivers that let us combine G-SYNC with Lightboost for a glorious display
- The TN panel has been described as a very high quality one that actually has very nice colors

The advantage of the 4K screen you are looking at is going to be mostly usable workspace.
