Logitech G5 stopped tracking on cloth pad...

Thread Starter
I have been using the same Logitech G5 for about 5 years now, and just recently, within the past few months or so, the tracking started to jitter more and more. I have been using the same QCK cloth pad for a long time now too, around 3 years, with no issues up until this. I tried cleaning the pad and sensor a few times, with no improvement. Both the mouse and pad are in great condition. I tried updating the firmware, and software, un-installing the software...trying the mouse on a different PC (same mouse mat though). I assumed the G5 was finally giving out, so I picked up a CM Spawn to hold me over. Was only $30, but I haven't really used it much yet because my PC is torn apart at the moment. Anyway, I am using the G5 right now on one of my other computers, a semi-gloss black desk, and it tracks like new again?

I don't know much about computer mice, but is it possible the sensor has just become weaker over time?

Anything I can clean/mod maybe to fix it?

Is there a mouse mat that might work better for the laser sensor?

It is the more rare silver/grey/light blue version, and if I could get it working well again, that would be great. For now, it works good on this desk, but I don't want to buy a new hard mouse pad for it if it's on its way out...and I prefer soft pads anyway. I was also looking at the new G500s or whatever, but I really don't like the look of them...the finish and graphics mainly.

Lasers usually track best on hard gaming mousepads, but then again optical mouse technology continues to be far superior to this day, so I would advise against bothering with buying a laser mouse gaming mousepad unless you're really dead set on keeping your G5 going.
