Wifi card issues

Thread Starter
Right off the bat - I have an issue with my Wifi card.

Let's start with a prologue:
I purchased a mobo-burnt laptop for a price of a sandwich with a thought to repair it, but did not have any time to put any work into it.
Then I had an idea - I could reuse laptop's Wifi card in my PC, so I could get rid of at least one cable. So I purchased PCI-to-miniPCI adapter and installed the card.
At the start everything seemed to be ok - PC found 'a new hardware' and installed it. A Wifi icon appeared in taskbar, I could search for wireless networks like a boss, but.. I COULD NOT CONNECT blinksmiley.gif

I could find my network, it even popped up a password screen, but in the end I am unable to connect.

Things I've done to fix this:
  • Installed drivers from manufacturer's website
  • Browsed the Internet for any info
  • I even reinstalled Windows, but no success

I've ran it under Windows 7 and Windows 8.1, but got the same result described above.
Or should I give up and buy a card, that's actually made for PC? biggrinsmiley.gif

Um.. Could be a stupid question but.. did you attach an antenna to the mini-PCI card? There should be a little nub on the card to snap a cable onto it. Without the antenna is probably would not be a strong enough signal to connect.

Of course biggrin.gif

Btw, it turned out to be a faulty pci-e 1x port.
I plugged the card in an empty pci-e 16x port and it works like a charm.
