Mostly gaming, but want to start exploring Overclocking probably no crazy voltages for a while though.

Why do you want X79 platform for gaming? There is a very terrible selection of boards that have no issues with overclocking on that platform.

Get the rampage black then, best motherboard I've ever had. 4930k is strong for gaming also. Rampage black is the best socket 2011 motherboard hands down for overclocking imo.

Have had a ROG board in the past and it performed fine so intially I was just looking for that when I came across the Rampage IV Black, but browsing around more I found the MSI with downsides that arent obvious to me and half the cost. Can you elaborate on what exactly you mean with the last sentence?

Get the best board you can afford. PSU and mobo is the area you never skimp on.

I vote RIVE or R4BE.

That is the CPU I intend to buy when I purchase either of these boards. Can you tell me some features you enjoy that make the black worth the purchase over the MSI?

Its more if I can justify the purchase. What makes the MSI board inferior? Im not opposed to spending more money, just like to know what I get for the extra money.

On my phone atm or I'd give you a huge list, but basically this board gave me everything I could ever want for hardcore overclocking and gaming. I'll post more when I get home. My favorite feature so far is the extreme power delivery.
