Samsung 4K 1ms monitor $754 it has begun - Page 20

If it would not be TN (even though its good TN according to reviews) I would probably have to raid my piggy bank for it even though it would stretch my budget noticeably.

At first I was a bit skeptical about high ppi screens and given option I would probably prefer 4K at approx 36..40'', but I believe I could live with 28'' 4K quite fine as well. However, I have been using for the past 2 weeks a 265 ppi "screen" (if you can say so for 3x1 portrait eyefinity of three ipad screens held together by wooden plate and tape) - ~20'' and 4608x2048 reso and once you get used to high ppi it's actually pretty nice - just have to sit closer to it than the "normal" ~110 ppi screen for it to be usable.

However, given the relatively high ppi and as such requirement to sit relatively close to the screen I believe that the contrast shifts that occur with TN already at relatively modest viewing angles can be problem with that screen.

There is a 32" inch model comin out
Just received mine today through Fedex.

The box is nice and slim, everything was well placed and so simple to setup.

After navigating the menu and finding the English text option i have calibrated the monitor and settings are

Picture:
Contrast- 80
Sharpness- 60
Game Mode- OFF
Samsung Magic Angle- Standing Mode

Color: RGB- Default
Gamme- 1

The screen looks amazing! The colors look just as good as my WQHD S-IPS Display when viewed from the front.
Anywhere from the sides the colors start to wash out. But who really uses their monitor at an angle?

Zero Dead Pixels And no BLB as far as I know.

I will perform various monitor tests later on and update once I'm done.thumb.gif

4K @ 60 HZ is so Awesome! biggrin.gif

FYI Make sure to pick up a figure 8 power cord such as the one in the link below
http://www.amazon.com/standard-compatible-Replacement-Electronic-Figure-8/dp/B0058FN6V2/ref=sr_1_2?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1395267276&sr=1-2&keywords=figure+8+power+cord

The one that comes with it is a Korean round tip plug.

For those that picked one up and have the default Korean Text.

On the rear right bottom side of the panel there is a thumbstick type controller.

Click down on it once then click up and push down

Click down 2 colums and in the submenu the the first column click down and scroll up until you see English.

After that have fun Calibrating it the way you want. smile.gif

Yeah, I just hope it's more optimized for the PC then the last Dark Souls.

But, With 3 290's You should easily be able to run it even at 4K.

I'm currently running 2 780 Classifieds and struggling with Crysis 3 at that res. LOL!

I'm home now and was able to setup the monitor pretty hassle free. Here's a pic of it with Far Cry 3 on.

First impressions

-Very light for its size
-After calibrating the picture settings per Zaxis the quality is pretty good. Colors saturation and contrast are about equal to the QNIX I was using just before although text is still a bit blurry if anyone knows how to fix that please chime in
-4k 60hz looks great but the monitor has blacked out on me several times now each for about less than half a second and picture returns. I'm using the supplied DP cable but will try another and see if it changes. It worked as plug and play and then I installed the driver that came with it (maybe a mistake, thinking now)
Crysis 3 looks especially good at 4k resolution and with 3 290x I am able to stay at 60 fps if you leave everything at ultra and use FXAA. It also looked better to me than using MSAA or SMAA MGPU
Comparing going from 110hz to 60hz it is noticeable but after about 10-15 minutes as long as the frames kept near 60 it was still very fluid.
-The supported stand that the monitor is attached to is very wobbly and bends more than I would like

You know that face that sometimes people make where you look disgusted at something, but in a good way? I did that for about 2 minutes when I saw those ipads you have.

Try uninstalling the driver. See if anything changes.
