Samsung 4K 1ms monitor $754 it has begun - Page 33

post #321 of 1323
1440p is like the new "720p" only that 1440p is actually uncommon, not a standard, expensive, and quite a high res. (720p is noticeably low)

720p -> 1080p = 2.25x the pixels.
1280x720 = 921,600
1920x1080 = 2,073,600

921,600 x 2.25 = 2,073,600

1440p -> 2160p = 2.25x the pixels.
2560x1440=3,686,400
3840x2160=8,294,400

3,686,400 x 2.25 = 8,294,400

Technically, your games will look over twice as good. Realistically, you won't be able to notice it that much.
In well rendered lossless/uncompressed 3D animated stuff, or games with high res textures, the difference can be quite good but due to the fact that most games don't have very high res textures the only benefit you'll likely get from this will mostly be small objects being more detailed, and less pixelated. A jpeg'd screenshot is a horrible thing to measure or judge this by.

Here is something better to compare the quality differences.

There is quite a difference from 1440p to 2160p, but depending on screen size and distance from the screen you may be unable to really tell the difference without looking for it.

On my old 20" monitor (5:4, 1280x1024) I played most of my games in a letter boxed 720p if they benefited from a wide screen, so my actual screen was pretty small with 1/3 of it being black bars. Even still, going to a 23" 1080p the biggest "WOW" with it was that I could have a cleaner UI, and chat boxes could show more lines while retaining the clarity of native res fonts.

If you have a 1440p monitor, 2160p is definitely worth upgrading to, but I would wait.

If it were up to me I would return the 1440p monitor and wait a few months, and get the 2160p for what you just bought the 1440p one for or maybe even less.

1440p monitors cannot display 1080p content well, as 1080 x notawholenumber = 1440, but 1440 is better for 720p content.
If you do stick with the 1440p monitor, and use netflix or anything for movies then get the 720p version as it will scale better.

Ok some more test with splinter cell blacklist:

1440p

4K

With Splinter cell there is some little difference if you focus on the image resulting more clear and more details but in gaming u will see no difference.
Spending Over 300+ more for this screen is worth if you come from 1080p.
From 1440p it's not worth in my opinion .
Let's be Honest spending $300+ additional $500 for an additional videocard to run 4K with a 28 inch monitor its just throw money if you had a 27' 1440p monitor.
Forget about the jump from 1080p to 1440p. you will not notice that same exp.
I would suggest 4k for monitor 32 inch or more.

I was surprised that battlefield its not optimized for 4k. Very disappointing.

Will do some test with crysis 3 later today

If you have the gpu power to run 4k, i would. You have to wager, if the difference in eye candy is worth the extra cash.

@pompss

Thanks for taking the time to post your thoughts on this screen.

This screen has just been made available @ £499 in the UK and there's not even 2560x1440 TN screens available here so I'm thinking running this at 1440p so my R9 290 can handle it. If you get a moment would you be able to test Windows/Battlefield4 at this lower than native resolution and mention whether you notice any anomalies?

Figure I could run it at that res and then when I get another £300 spare for another 290 I can start running at 4k.

I'm gonna go ahead and disagree with the thought that it's hard to tell a difference in BF going from 1440p -> 4k. I will take screenshots later tonight to try and prove it, but screenshots are not always the best way to see visual differences, as motion is much more important. Anyways, I can very clearly see a large increase from 1440 -> 4k in multiplayer. I was playing on Paracel Storm, for what it's worth.

In fact, I can tell a big difference on every game I've played. Some of them definitely do not have textures that can take the increase, which results in some weird looking games at some times (especially when some textures are a higher res than others) but again, the increased resolution is very apparent. As I've said before, I am a huge visual clarity stickler, which may explain why I can tell the difference and others can't. I am the type of person who would rather have 4k (or previously, 1440p) at 60hz than 1080p at 120hz, so yeah.

When I get my second 290, then I feel I will be extremely happy at the performance.

Yes i did and there is no anomalies.
Also as i said before there is no substantial big difference between 1440p and 4k on 28 inch monitor in gaming.
I watched some 4k video and there is also no big difference.
I would suggest you to wait for a 32" 4k monitor.

I respect your toughs but saying " Big Difference" from 1440p to 4K ........rolleyes.gif
If you talk about 32 inch screen maybe yes but after playing a couple of hours with a 4k 28 inch i can say there is no big difference from my old 1440p 27 inch,
Trust me i am very visual and detailed guy
i see more detail and clear image when i stop during the game like watching a stone (pics of splinter cell previous post) but i really cant see this big difference with the game in movement like when i went from 1080p to 1440p .
Its not an over roll improvement from 1440p to 4k like it was from 1080 to 1440p and not all the games benefits of 4k so maybe its a little early for 4k.

There must be something that either I am not understanding, or there is just a big difference between how you and I judge this. I have downloaded actual UHD video, as well as played at least 20 different games to test in UHD so far, and I can say there's a huge difference in my eyes. I can definitely see some textures not up to par, but other than that the increased resolution is unmistakable to me. Everything is much sharper and where supported, much more detailed. You said earlier that BF4 didn't support 4k correctly? That is not at all what my experience has been. It looks way clearer to me when playing, and that's just with my single 290.

You can rolleyes.gif all you want but I stand by my opinion of it being a big difference. Hell, I have my old 1440p monitor next to this 4k one, and believe me, I can tell a huge difference. I'll make sure to run two copies of games at times to make sure to see them side by side, but again man, I am not bull****ting anyone. I can see a big difference.

I just took some pics from thief

1440p

4k

you can see that the 4k is more clear and more detail but no the big difference when u play the game in movement.

I think with bigger monitor we will see more difference for sure but with 28 inch its not worth the upgrade if you come from a 27'' 1440p.

Anyway samsung did an amazing monitor.
i really can see no big difference from ips to this TN at all.
