Samsung 4K 1ms monitor $754 it has begun - Page 64

I saw it is set for a May 1 release in the UK, but what would be a reasonable time to expect it in the rest of Europe? I am really looking forward to getting one, but there are not really any definite dates given.

I just sold an extra computer, to get money for this monitor.

Are you owners still happy with it?
Is the low contrast very bothersome?

I use a computer for ~10 hours a day, and I spend Most of that time reading. Is it worth the investment for me, over a 27" 1440? (because of text clarity)
The programs that I use will scale the text just fine. (Kindle, PDF, etc.)

Thanks.

ALSO, can someone please try 1080 scaling and tell me how well it works? Because it's *2, I expect it will be perfect?
I don't have the video power to play games on 4k, lol.

  • Still happy owner, and i took the risk from getting it early from ebay.
  • I do watch anime and videos, but it does not bother me.
  • I can see text fine, there is a zoom option available in most broswers or you can change the text size in the monitor options. I use win7.
  • I dont have a kindle, but pdfs work fine as well.

  • I tested 1080 on bf4 and works properly. Jaggies are horrible at the res, but what can you do?! tongue.gif

Only issue i had was the manual power shut off. It wont turn back on. You need to restart pc to fix it, so i dont manually shut off the monitor.

Hey, thanks for the info!
You misunderstood my question about text. What I mean is: does the fact that it's 4k and much higher in PPI than a 2560x1440 monitor, make it much more pleasant to read text because the text is sharper? Is it a big change? My main desire is reducing eye fatigue when reading. And, the programs I use will be able to scale the text to a normal size.

Good day!

Good day!

Now that you mention the sharpness, it does look a little sharper, but the huge difference is screen size. You can fit more text on screen because the res is so high. When i use this monitor i basically open 2 browers and split it. On one, i surf. On the other i play youtube. You can fit that much text, it seems like 2 monitors. I hope that was explained well. Last night was a rough night. wink.gif

Anyone with a calibrator: Could you please tell me what the luminance is, @ 0% brightness?

Thanks!

There is a fix for chrome if you want to use it with a 4k monitor:

1. type chrome://flags into the address bar of chrome
2. search for "dpi" and choose "enable" instead of "default" for "HiDPI support windows"
3. then you have to right click on the chrome application (or you can right click on a shortcut in the taskbar, and then right click again on google chrome in the menu) and choose "properties". Under the compatibility tab, choose "Disable display scaling on high dpi settings", then reboot chrome and everything in the browser will be like internet explorer. High dpi!!!
