upgrading my gpu.

Thread Starter
right now i have a radeon hd 7970 i want to upgrade my video card ether get another 7970 or go with another single slot video card. now right now i have no money but will be getting $300 i want to know how much i can sell my 7970 for. what i was thinking was when i have the $300 plus what ever i can get from my 7970 sell that card and put that money with the $300 and see how much i have, from there buy a new video card.
now i don't care if it's ati or nvidia i care about right now is that the new video card has to be ether the same or better. please i am really asking for help cause i think it's time for me to upgrade my video card. please take this seriously.

R290
  • Crypto Currency Mining
  • Costs $100 less, consumes about 50W more power
  • GCN Mantle
  • Better for higher resolutions

780 Ti
  • G-Sync Support (only for G-Sync monitors)
  • Costs $100 more, consumes 50W less power
  • Better texture filtering i.e AF
  • TWIMTBP games run better i.e. Batman Arkham Asylum, Origins, Metro 2033, LL etc...

Both good cards, just depend on what you want to do.

Idle Temps
780Ti - 30C = 11C Cooler than R290 @ Idle temps
R290 - 41C = 11C hotter

Sony Vegas Rendering Time
780Ti - 35 Seconds = 13 Seconds Longer than R290
R290 - 22 Seconds = 13 Seconds Faster

Nvidia 4xx & 5xx series ran better with Sony Vegas Pro. R290 renders faster than the 780Ti probably due to Sony optimizing OpenCL performance. It's really up to you of what you want more of.

You could sell the 7970 for $400. I see them go for around 380-500 on ebay all the time. mining has made ATI cards stupid expensive.thumb.gif
