[Question] How to lower 7950 gpu core clock with dual monitors at idle?

Edit: Posted in wrong forum, can this be moved to Ati overclocking?.

Does anyone know how to lower the gpu core clock at idle on a 7950 when running dual monitors? Is that something that can be changed in the BIOS? Or does the card have to run faster to handle both monitors?

I have an XFX 7950 DD and at idle the card wants to run at 500mhz. At that speed the card is running too hot and loud. Temporary solution is run the 2nd monitor off onboard video bringing the card back down to 300mhz.

This can't be changed. Running more than one monitor kills off the lowest power saving state. Using two monitors of different resolutions kills off another I believe.

I have the same issue with my 280x.I have 2 monitors a 22'' 1680 x 1050 and a 24'' 1920 x 1080.Temps : idle @ 42-43c with VRM temps @ 31c ,and running @ 500MHz,and auto fan control profile.But my card is not loud at all,thank God..I don't think the temps are alarmingly high though..How hot is yours running?

Never thought of the onboard video and I have it disabled..Might give it a try..

The XFX 7950 is loud loud loud. I have been messing around with custom fan settings using F@H and Diablo3 as my sound benchmarks. At least I sort of have that under control with the stock xfx fan.

Right now at idle, the GPU is 36c at 26% fan. But once the card gets up to 70c I have to run the fan around 55-58% to keep it at that temp and not completely go deaf. From what i can figure out only XFX has the super loud fans.

So I can't edit something in the bios using VBEDIT to clock this sucker down with more than 1 monitor attached? Or better yet I now see with 1 monitor attached and I run my Qnix 2710 at 120hz, that also brings the 7950 clock up to 500MHz. I wonder if the Gelid heatsink/fan fits in the fractal node 304 case?

For now using onboard video for the 2nd monitor at least works.
