[VC] ASUS ROG MATRIX R9 290X Platinum spotted

Right above you can see the first ever picture of the upcoming Radeon R9 290X Platinum from ASUS. This is the new installment in ASUS ROG MATRIX series. Compared to previous models, card received major design refresh. The new MATRIX is now dual-slot, which should be a good solution for multi-GPU configurations.

The PCB is far more superior than reference. We have 12+4 phase power design, which is more than enough to allow extreme overclocking. The card is also equipped with two 8pin power connectors assisted by one 6pin. That’s the same configuration as MSI’s Lightning. It doesn’t take a genius to figure out who is ASUS targeting with its new model — extreme overclockers.

Very cool. Going to be interesting to see how this stacks up versus the MSI 290x Lightning.

I had to update my post, because more pictures were leaked, and we have a better look. Apparently the last connector is not 6-pin power connector.

All credit goes to wccftech, they found it first.

Coolenjoy story was posted on February 26th, but nobody noticed coolsmiley02.gif

i was thinking the same thing, the cooler is so much smaller, i imagine the lighting will stay much cooler even though more than dual slot spacing sucks.

So how many VRMs does the reference 290x have? So more VRMs mean better phases mean better temps?
