[VC] ASUS ROG MATRIX R9 290X Platinum spotted - Page 8

oc3d has a vid up for each card.

edit: just finished watching the video.

I need one. I need it now. Kingpin, 290x lightning, 780ti matrix...well there goes my haswell-e money.

heres the additional PCB you can get from asus to put onto the card for ln2

That is a freakin awesome add on pcb i must say.

I cant wait to see some Kingpin vs 290x lightning vs 290x/780ti matrix vs whatever other top dog card (galaxy Hofv20 maybe) comparison on ln2, hell even on air/water i would be excited for that.

Anyone have a good reason why we aren't seeing any custom IO's for these cards? This 2x DVI + 1 HDMI + 1 DP setup is silly...

Yes this is best ROG graphic card for now.
Probably will hold world record if ASUS choose nice chips.
They have huge demands for cards that will be hard except giving some crazy price.
In past they didn't try hard to make fantastic cards, maybe now they will start.
I know DC2 series only avoiding, same as reference, only better cooler, VRM, Memory, nothing better, only cooler and more silent card.
I say that too. ASUS have power and knowledge to connect everything together. Motherboard > graphic card > I/O Panel and to stop to change every year that. Because than devices are cheaper, look worse, connectors are different. Everything compatible at least 5-6 years.
I mean I/O Panel and one device similar as EVBot, example I don't know how they call that with Maximus 6 Extreme and something nice. Not cheap. Connector compatible with motherboard and graphic card, same, maybe even LED monitor on graphic card directly to present temp...
For this card one thing is sure, people should play lottery only for GPU chip. With Kingpin they need to hit and nice memory and nice chip and that's almost impossible. At the moment world record hold cards with Hynix chip on almost 2000MHz. No doubt memory help. If 200MHz help me to get 110 points on Unigine Heaven 4 Extreme than help and in other test double or 5 times higher.

Example I would make 100-500 cards for highest Class. Or less, but that series would be much much expensive than others. Example if other most expensive card cost 500e, I would sell for 1000e... But that would be really really really binned chips with exactly number tested where must to pass.
Example 1400MHz under water every card, if no such clock, RMA immediately. Because today brands as ASUS, MSI, EVGA, completely destroy some their best series, you can find junk inside and cards are almost 200e more sometimes. I would sell for double price but for people who want to play games on high clock or LN2 but no mistake, where is mistake RMA immediately. Now because big demands for best series producers instead to increase price of reference models, they start to put junk in best class as Lightening, now make some Lightening LE, ROG I can't remember their records or some excellent card, EVGA with Classified some mixing with memory, some chaos. That would be unacceptable, but I know here people who would pay and double if you shock them good in with something and if they don't afraid to find bad sample.

This part would be interesting if you can give more voltage to card than usually and for normal users not only LN2.
Why not, EK will make waterblock, if you can bump 100-200mV plus that would be even better card than.
All switches are more functional than on EVGA Classified, bigger, more accessible, button +, -, EVGA use some microscopic switches where you have good 20% chance to brake something, in some case that don't even work.
But Classified is nicer and more elegant and PCB as PCB EVGA look better for me. But little switches are mistakes, and this card have some better options and look like more advanced card.
Now even I think to buy 3rd GK110... NO I WILL NOT! But now I would choose ROG because I know I couldn't hit twice excellent memory with Kingpin. Second card would be probably 1800MHz disaster.
Now I can more than 1950MHz...Only if ASUS allow replacing coolers with blocks, because I can't look this in PC. If they allow I draw them shroud, they will sell 10% cards more.

How is access given to this add-on?

Vlada: This add-on PCB will be really hard to install and keep in a closed computer case. Test rigs I can see but mostly it will be on bench platforms with a hundred different wires all over the place anyway.

you have to contact asus and request it. Kind of like the afterburner extreme for the 290x lightning. They dont want some guy whos never overclocked before to ruin his card then try to get a free new one from rma after he gave it 2.0v on air lol.

Ya I got that from TTL's video but no details provided. Same as with ABX, I had to PM Neliz to get an email address to further ask about ABX.

You see and Hynix Memory depend from sample, no warranty. Guru3D overclocked on +500(250MHz) but Ocaholic only on 200(100MHz)...
On Guru3D such overclocked card 45MHz GPU and 250MHz on memory give less score then K|NGP|N out of box.
It's not easy to launch card with more than 1020MHz on GPU base clock. ASUS premium cards always came with some less clock than other brands.
Probably because they expect to sell many samples. I know ASUS will choose nice chips for labs for testing but for customers is completely different story.
PCB look somehow empty for me, I don't know for you... Example Galaxy HOF V2 is... I don't know like they have spy in EVGA. They wait EVGA to launch card and copy everything except white PCB and few more things just to say We are bigger, we have more.

Among the 290X, I see the MSI 290X Lightning as clearly the best one right now. Not so sure though about the top 780Ti - presuming you can get unlocked voltage anyways. It will be the MSI 780Ti Lightning if it is ever released though with Hynix.

These new Asus cards seem to be very similar in PCB to the 7970 Matrix and I'm nervous about that. The 7970 Matrix had its share of issues. The Dual Link DVI had issues as did the Display Ports some of the time. That and a few of the 7900 series DCU II coolers shipped with defects.
